We loved Dreams La Romana when we were there 2 years ago. If you can fly into La Romana it is a nice choice. Fir us we had to fly into Punta Cana and it was a long drive to that side. As well for us we love to beach walk at least once a day. Punta Cana is much better for this. The resorts in PC are right next to each other so you have long stretches of beach to walk. Those in La Romana are more isolated and therefore there is not much beach to walk at each.

Both are good, safe and have great beaches . I'm happy that we will be gettring direct flights from JFK to La Romana in mid November,

Dreams and Iberostar are good in La Romana . As BB said it has a more relaxed feel.

In Punta Cana there are many many resorts one after another along a long strech of lovely beach, it can get a bit busy with guests from all the surrounding resorts walking up and down the beach

PC beats LRM in my opinion hands down. That being said, there is a new highway being built that supposedly cuts the travel time to 45 mins from PUJ which means we could get a nonstop flight. I would not rule it out as a possibility but the beaches in no way that I have seen can compete with PUJ. Water is calm..no waves : (

I too am interested in La Romana in the near future. I just recently went to Punta Cana for the first time and I thought the beaches were amazing!

I loved the color of the sand and water. There was none to little seaweed and there was little waves at the resort I stayed at. I'm not really into waves. I like calm water.

I don't mind not having a long stretch of beach to walk on, but does La Romana have those features I describe?

Hi Zetababe,

I don't think there are any unsafe resorts in the DR. Resorts by their very nature are pretty safe places, although individuals can do unsafe things within resorts.

I also don't think food and drink varies between the two locations. It may vary a bit from one resort to the next, but I personally don't find it varies a whole lot, at least from one middle-of-the-road resort to another. It might vary from a very low-end resort to a very high-end one. However, this is one thing that is very, very subjective. What I think is wonderful, you might think is dreadful.

The definition of a "nice beach" is also pretty variable. The beach in PC is certainly larger/longer than in La Romana but only you can decide if big=nice. As for swimmable water, I think the edge here would go to La Romana.

Punta Cana Beaches are so much better than in Bayahibe been to Dreams La Romana and Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus and would not return to Dreams great chain (would try a Dreams in Punta Cana) but the beach at DLR not very big, it's a small bay that can suffer if your arrive after a storm as we did, which led to the sea not being able to clear all the debris from the storm the small bay set up could not wash away the debris, with the water murky for a 2wks, resulting in me not going in the sea (not good!) hey I understand we unlucky and not hotel at fault as was unfortunate weather, but also our experience we found that the hotel walls were paper thin, never experienced a hotel where this was such a issue, had different guests over our 2wks both sides providing too much noise interrupting sleep and generaly a point of annoyance for our trip.

Iberostar hotel in Bayahibe much better far better beach and nicer hotel overall much better hotel rooms aswell.

So verses our 2 Bayahibe trips we have enjoyed 5 Punta Cana ones staying at Iberostar Dominicana, Majestic Colonial, Gran Bahia Principe Ambar and Catoloina Royal Bavaro.

Punta Cana beaches so amazing and beat Bayahibe by miles!!! Planning to return to Punta Cana many more times (not Bayahibe)
