Nightlife @ Iberostar Grand Bavaro?

Just finished reading another review on the IGB and we are starting to be a little concerned about the night life at the resort. We aren't huge partiers or anything but we do enjoy going out for some evening drinks and mingling a bit. Definitely not interested in being back at the room by 10 watching t.v.! Is it really as quiet as some of the reviewers have thought it to be? If so, is there a better bar/area at any of the other Iberostar resorts that we have access to?

Definately doddle over to the Iberostar Bavaro lobby bar or the disco at the Dominicana or the ship disco at the Grand.

It really is quiet.

I love the Grand and will return but at night there really is not much to do.

The bar is designed all wrong for mingling. I never have any trouble striking up any conversation in any resort other than the Grand. It was hard to get to know people there at night.

There is live music at the bar sometimes and things can get slightly more lively then but it is still very laid back.

I am not a party animal at all, I want to sit at a bar, read a book and when interesting people come along have a chat, discussion or a laugh. It just did not really happen there. (I am 37 and travel alone, believe me if it is hard to mingle when you are me, it ‘s hard to mingle).

It is not the crowd/guests, it is the set up of the bar.

I have been to Iberostrar Grand Paraiso in Mexico and that one is just as upscale but not boring at all.

They do have a party boat that they open a few times a week and then it can get a lot more lively with karaoke and such. I had fun on the boat but it was not open a lot and even if it was, I would not want to hear people singing out of key every single evening.

You can get whisked off by golf cart to next doors resort and they are much more lively. It is defiantly fun for a night or two but it is not classy at all.

The (open)theater is right next to the bar so you are forced to listen to the low IQ games or shows.

It is such a drop down from the classy Grand, shame there is not something more in between.

Still the place is so great that even with this big flaw I still love it and will return.

A few nights next door or at the casino next door, a few on the show boat and then a few slow ones at the bar will get me by alright.

Sorry I cannot take away your worry. If night life is a huge part of your holiday and more important than being spoiled rotten en have great food than I am not sure it is the perfect place for you.

Then again you might get lucky, it only takes one fun group of people to ‘take over’ the place and make it more lively!

I was about to post the same message about concerns of the nightlife at IBG.

Is the lobby bar the only bar open at night? Are there any open air bars to have a drink outside?

Thanks!

Leah:

No open air bar at the IBG, which was a bit of a disappointment for us as we prefer to be outside as much as possible. There were a few tables outside the lobby bar - very quiet there. We never saw anything going on at the ship - but maybe it's only later at night. The lobby bar at the Iberostar Bavaro is open air and much more lively.

Hi,

No open air bar at the Grand but next door there is and indeed that is very lively.

At the Grand there is a swim up bar with some tables near it though but that is only open in day time.

On the ship there are tables outside but I am not sure if there is drinks being brought to them and that place is only open when the ship is in use.

Lobby bar is open all day but unless it rains there is hardly a soul in it until pre dinner drinks time.

My wife and I will be there at the end of the month. We're not huge partiers but would like to go out some nights. I understand the other parts are more lively at night. What are the better places to go in the complex at night? I thought i read that one of the other parts has a beachfront bar. Is that correct and is it open at night?

You know what is fun, step into a golf cart one evening and asked to be dropped off at the bar furthers away and work your way back by foot.

All of the other properties sort of runt into each other so you can go from one bar to the next.

I is really fun to do. At the last one you might want to use the golf cart again as the Grand does not really overlap with the other resorts but I really did enjoy doing this.

Dropped by the casino too, had a blast.

" It is defiantly fun for a night or two but it is not classy at all.:"

LOL I loved this.

Apparently "class = I paid more"

Honestly, their probably is not a huge difference between the guests at the resorts with the exception of the fact that Grand has no kids. I have met lots of guests at all the resorts. Some have "class" some don't. It's not at ALL related to how much you spend UNLESS that's your only measurement LOL!

For me the Bavaro actually is a better choice just because it is more lively.

The class I was referring too had nothing to do with the guests themselves!

What a terrible shame it got interpreted like that (or do some feel offended too easily).

You made it about guests not me, not for a minute!

I was referring to the surroundings and entertainment.

Top self drinks, pianist playing, quiet and upscale surroundings vs loud theater games / music is what I mean and wrote about.

Overall more money can buy you more class but money does not make people classy. Grand got a more classy feel to it you can not deny that if you have been there but agian i mean the place itself not the guests.

I think I also made it clear that ‘next door’ is way more lively and fun therefore nicer for some people.

Stop seeing a difference as a down side of a resort. There is such a big difference in the feel of the Grand and the other resorts and it is only good to mention that here so people can make the right choice.

There are many differences between the resorts and of they are better depends on what you are looking for!
