Golf in Punta Cana

Looking for some advice on golfing in Punta Cana. We would like to stay somewhere there is a golf package. I see catalonia Royal Bavaro has one as does Melia Caribe. Does anyone have any opinions? Thanks

Both resorts offer green fees and shuttle to the course as part of the package, Carts are extra in both packages about $35.00 per person. Both courses are enjoyable with the Cocotal course (Melia) being the better. The Catalonia has a seperate nine hole course for those who only want to play nine. Both resorts are good with The Cat Royal being adults only.

Thanks for that. Do you know anything about the Bavaro Barcelo Course? and the costs there?

Barcelo Bavaro was redesigned and redeveloped to open again in 2010. reviews have been good -

worldgolf.com/courses/dominicanrepublic/barc…

Costs are comparable when staying at the hotel (35 per person - maybe 40 now) for the cart.

We've done the Melia hotel/golf about 3 years ago and it is a great course and shuttle is included - but it was not the most convenient since it runs on a schedule and Melia is at the end of the run.

At Barcelo you can walk on to the course (or they will pick you up in a golf cart), cart beer/water etc is included - bit of a bonus.

We stayed/played here about 6 years ago before it was redeveloped and are going back in April 2012.

We were at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe end of Dec. for 2 weeks, Melia Caribe in March for 2 weeks and back to the Palace on Oct. 30 for a week. The golf course at the Palace Deluxe was even better in Oct than in Dec. greens very lush. The course at the Melia which is Cocotal is nicer, 27 holes, no waiting but you have to shuttle to and from the course. The Palace is much nicer hotel and you can walk to the course or call and they will pick you up. Both are great.

Golfed at both but not since the Barvaro has been redone.Staying at the Melia is very close to the golf course.I stay at the Parsdisus punta cana and that is a 10 to 15 minute drive to Cocotal and is unlimted golf but the cart fee is 37 dollars.Going back to Paradisus in April and might look at playing Barvaro seeing I have not played there in at least 10 years. The beer is nice and cold at Barvaro. The tees were a mess 10 years ago.

I live on the course at Cocotal and although enjoyable, not on par with Iberstate (Iberostar), which is very well cared for and considerably more fun to play. Some packages through Iberostar include rounds of golf.

If it is a wet week, expect Cocotal to be a bit mushy.

Cheers

Take a look at the Hard Rock. They have a very nice course. Pricey, but you get $1500 resort credit. You can use all of it golfing if you want.

Does everyone get the credit, or must you visit the time share presentation?

everyone gets the credit. Then if you do the presentation, they'll give you $300 more if you want
