Saona catamaran excursion

Looking into taking this Saona Island trip. Has anyone got any input on this trip ? You know the old saying. If it sounds too good ? Thanks

Been on the Saona trip 2 times.

Its a beautiful island and the opportunity to get out on that crystal blue water on a big catamaran with a group of people was a lot of fun.

That being said...I wouldn't do it again. Why leave one beautiful beach to get on a bus for 90 minutes to get on a boat to go to another beautiful beach?

If you are into snorkeling....Catalina island is better.

We enjoyed the scenery and activities while traveling to and from Saona Island more than the short time actually spent on Saona Island. It was a full day excursion from Grand Palladium Resort. The beach on Saona was not as nice as the beach at Grand Palladium. There was coral or stones in the water by the beach which made it very uncomfortable going into the water. There may be better beaches on Saona depending on whom you plan the excursion with. The speed boat ride to Saona and the catamaran ride back were enjoyable. We had no regrets going on this excursion except for the length of time spent on the bus getting there and back. If you are only spending a week in Punta Cuna, I think there are probably better ways of spending your day.

Go for it.

We booked it through our Transat Holidays rep at the resort.

I was on Saona Island at exactly this time one week ago.

We had a great time. We left our resort (Be Live Grand) at 7:30 a.m. Our small bus met up with another large bus on side of the main highway where we boarded the large bus. The bus ride to where you board the catamaran is about an 1.5 hours - it takes you thru the town of Higuey so there's a lot to see - the Basilica, the meat and pigs hanging in the shop windows etc. Once we got off the boat we boarded the speedboats (seats about 40 ppl) for the short jaunt to the catamaran. The catamaran was great. lots of room to chill out, catch some rays, music playing, girls pouring you rum and cokes and beer and getting everyone up dancing. The catamaran trip to the island was about 1.5 hours as well. You are shuttled to shore on the speedboats again. Once we got to the Island, lunch was ready and waiting for us. They had cold past a salad, fruit, pasta and tomato sauce, grilled pork, rice and a few other items that I didn't try. The bar was open. Small cups for drinks so I suggest you get 2 or 3 at a time. The sun was hot, wore a ton of sunscreen and never got burnt. The part of the island where we stopped had a few sections of seaweed and coral bottom but there was one section that was nice and sandy. Played in the water for about 2 hours. Next the Speedboat takes us back and on the way we stopped at a Natural Pool (wastedeep), got off the boats and found starfish. Everyone took turns passing the starfish around for photo ops. More rum and coke served here as well. Once we get back to shore and head for the bus the vendors on motorbike are hounding you big time to purchase bottled water, pop, ice cream etc. The bus makes one more stop on the way back to Punta Cana at a large souveiner shop and stays there for about 30 mins. Met up with the mini-bus along side the highway again on the way back and got back to our hotel around 6:30/7pm. It was a very long day but very worth it. It was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. We booked thru our rep, NOltours and the tour was operated by Turrismo Toursrs, paid $104 US

If your there for 2 weeks, would do it > We did this thru Seavis tours, most deserted gorgeous beach ever. One week is too short...... We went in a mini-van to Bayahibe, long but worth it.
