For tipping then pesos first then USD then CD and NO COINS

Even though on par with USD your CD is exchanged at a lower rate here so it is better for tippinng in USD as they will have to convert to pesos to use it here.

We are Canadian and our research has informed us that bringing USD is widely accepted for tipping, shopping and excursions...we're prepared with lots of USD anyway :D

US dollars - we have asked many of the staff what they prefer, pesos or US as we used to bring both and they have always indicated that they would like the US$.

In and around the PC resorts, excursions and Taxis US dollars are part of the norm.

If you go out and about away from Punta Cana, dollars are accepted much less so and in many places not at all.

So if you stay in the resort, US dollars are no worries. If you go to Higuey, La Romana, Santo Domingo, etc. change into Pesos or you will be overcharged or not able to use them at all.

The recipients of your tips live their lives off campus in Pesos. Their rent, food and whiskey is paid in Pesos. They are happy to get whatever currency you give and they can exchange them all at a casa de cambio. So CD, USD, Pounds Sterling, Francs and Pesos are all good to tip, it's whatever is most convenient for You.

If loonies are CD, no one said they can "use" them.
