Still confused...IPhone in PC

I've checked the forum on this topic and this is what I think i understand...

1) I need to set my iPhone to airplane mode

2) I need to turn data roaming off

Is this all I need to do to avoid Verizon charges???

Now, does this mean I can use the hotel wifi and still send

A) emails ?

B) FaceTime?

C) text?

I'm taking my iPad so I don't have to use my iPhone....I'm just curious...

Thanks and any other information on this topic will certainly be appreciated...

I just returned from punta Cana and used my iPhone while there. I have at & t but I think it should be the same. I turned my phone on airplane mode and date off. When you turn your phone on airplane mode it automatically turns wifi to off as well. All you have to do is manually turn your wifi back to on find your network and you should be good. I was able to FaceTime, check and send emails, Facebook and IMessage chat while doing this. Hope this helps!!

As long as you follow the above directions there will be no extra charges. I make sure to set my iPhone up properly before boarding the plane.

Just to clarify. When you say turn data off are you referring to "cellular data", "voice roaming" , or "data roaming" ... Or maybe ALL of the above???

I'm pretty sure putting your phone on airplane mode automatically turns everything off, so you don't have to manually turn off your roaming as well.

To be ultra safe turn them all "off". You only need Airplane mode and data roaming off but just in case you should accidentally change Airplane mode, keep them all off.

i still say take 4 seconds pop sim card out,, no chance of any data or text use then,,

then you can leave your facebook, email ect active and when you find free wifi it will all work

All wrong.

Airplane mode is exactly that; for airplanes. All radio - including wifi - off

when roaming, leave data roaming turned off. Then, your phone will not use the mobile network for data, only wifi, when available. You will still be able to make calls - albeit at a greater call cost.

If ou put your iPhone in airplane mode, it's an iPod touch.
