Live from the Ambar! Lovin it!

Arrived yesterday afternoon and having a great time ! First impressions of the grounds and beautiful lobby just blew me away. And every employee I encountered yesterday has been a pleasure. My email restaurant reservations never got received, so it was a pain sitting there for a half hour getting that fixed but Tomas was fantastic getting me dinners for the week, and even escorted me to Don Pablo last night where I had the sea bass and filet Mignon, which I had no problems ordering 2 dinners as I had only a bagel all day from traveling. Excellent food and the desserts looked fabulous, they had a chocolate strawberry volcano and making fresh banana flambé but I am not much of a dessert person. Wi-Fi is great in the lobby, but I paid $50 for 7 days for Wi-Fi in the room and supposed to be for the rest of the resort too, but that's not true, it's only for the room. I ordered room service this morning for breakfast but they did forget the cups and sugar, I just used from the coffee bar in the room. The breakfast is fantastic! Fresh fruit, yogurt , breads, muffins, croissants, even chocolate eclairs. The only things that I have to complain about are there no ice machines, you can get it at the bars or have it delivered. Kinda a walk and kinda a wait, I ordered a bucket for breakfast so hopefully it will last a little bit. I never received a map or binder thing with hotel information like hours of restaurants in the room. I got some of that information through you guys on TA, so at least I had some idea. And one more complaint, my AC doesn't work so good. I made sure the balcony door was locked and all that. When I put the fan on its not so bad. Oh and also I have a room that has a connecting door on it and you can here everything next door. I did go to bed early last night after travel day, and I think they are good neighbors cause the noise was over by midnight. Anyways, pretty good start to vacation, I don't sweat the small stuff, I am just going to go to the beach all day! There was a beautiful tropical sun shower this morning, we don't get those in CT! If anybody has any questions I will be happy to answer. They did finish the waterpark at the entrance. Looks like fun for all the little and big kids !

In case you didn`t know you can check out a free bicycle (at the tennis court hut), and then ride around so that you can check out the whole property. That is also where you get a club and ball for the mini golf.

You can also walk up to the third floor of any building closest to the ocean and take some nice photos.

If you don`t like the coffee in the buffet just order a cappuccino.

If you have a la carte booking for tomorrow night change it as it`s "Gala Night" at the Ambar buffet, which is not to be missed.

If you want to check out the beach vendors just walk right once you are on the beach. It's about a 20 minute walk each way, so I suggest you bring some money, and a bottle of water. (price items before buying them)

I know you want to go deep sea fishing, if that doesn't work out I suggest you take a catamaran excursion as it's a lot of fun and less expensive.

There should be a binder in your room, and the map should have been given to you along with your room key card. Guest Services can supply you with one, and also answer any questions.

Glad to year you are enjoying Ambar. The grounds there are lovely. Probably the prettiest and best maintained landscaping at any resort we have visited.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the Ambar, it is truly a magical place (in my own opinion of course). We are looking forward to our trip next April. Also the shops at the end of the beach are more like a 35-40 minute walk unless you are running :-). It is about a 15-20 minute walk to Caribbean Street, if it is still there, great little shops (beside the Rui's).

Thank you everyone for the tips! Just got off the beach and ate at the buffet for lunch! What a beautiful set up and variety ! I do not think of one meat item than was missed, and I am a meat eater!! No fatty meats either which is a biggie for me! Now sitting for an after lunch cocktail using the free Wi-Fi in the lobby bar, enjoying a Absolt and cranberry. After sunning this AM I walked all the way to where I stayed in 2008 and 2009, the Barcelo Punta Cana. Gorgeous weather and just enjoying life!! I do not post many vacation photos on TA as most of my photos I can easily upload to Facebook, so if any one wants to see my photos so far I have an album Punta Cana 2012 set up, so friend me!

Since I didn't know about Caribbean Street I did a fast check and thought I'd share a link with others in case they want to check it out.

Photo of the entrance from the beach is useful!
