Sunscreen for face

I'm asking for suggestions as I need to buy a really good sunscreen for my face for our Feb. trip to PC. I ended up with skin cancer from a bad burn years ago on a trip to Acapulco so I am always careful with the sun and wear a hat but am out of facial sunscreen and would like to put my money towards the best brand. Also something that's not too greasy. I'm in Ontario so something I could buy at Shopper's Drug Mart or Sears would be the best.

I would definitely ask your dermatologist for his or her recommendations and then share it here so we can all find out! I know that I use a higher SPF on my face and try to find non-greasy formulas... other than that, something non-allergenic, noncomedogenic, etc.

Hi LHeath

I have extremely sensitive skin, so I find the super high end products are actually harder on my skin due to perfumes, etc. I alway use Aveeno facial sunscreen because there are no oils which means non-greasy. I use 30SPF but they also have 45 and 60 at WalMart right here in Midland!

I will be watching this to see the other suggestions as well!

Have a great trip!

Thanks poozieny but unfortunately in Ontario you need a referral to a dermatologist and my doctor seldom refers to any specialist. I will definately look for a higher SPF and noncomedogenic..

And thank you Jenny. How did you know I do most of my shopping at our Walmart? I will definitely try the Aveeno product and it shouldn't cost me too much either.

For my face I have been sticking with Neutrogena suncreens (age-shield SPF 70 and 110) and have good luck with them. My face is prone to breakouts and they seem to be the only ones that do not cause problems for me.

I tried Aveeno a few years ago and didn't like it as much - but it has been at least 4 years since I tried Aveeno on the face.

I was able to buy a zinc-oxide based product in the U.S for the face which I have read should be the best for protection - but have not tried it yet. I have never managed to find zinc-odiide (sunblock) it in New Brunswick but maybe you can get some in Ontario.

Who doesn't do most of their shopping at WalMart if you live in Midland? There's nothing else here! LOL

I think the Aveeno ran around $20? Hopefully they've got a decent selection of sunscreen at this time of year. I go later in March so I don't have too much trouble finding it.

I stop in there on my way home a few times a week, so I can check it out if you want. Likely will be running in tomorrow....

Neutrogena is also really good! Superstore also carries this and Aveeno products :)

Thanks Jenny but it's okay. Now that I'm retired, I find myself at Walmart every other day just for entertainment. Just kidding, I do have a life!!!

I had forgotten about Neutrogena. It's not too expensive and I've used it before with good results. Thanks everyone.

LHeath:

My dermatologist recommended La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF 60. I use it on my face/ears/chest and shoulders:

Just a reminder to put on your sunscreen before going out in the sun and reapply often (you probably know that, but hey, since my TA name is "Mom" I've gotta act like one)...

I tried the neutrogena spf 70 helioplex facial sunscreen last year and it was great. I usually break out at the drop of a hat, but this didn't make me break out, and kept my nose from peeling! I just bought another tube at Shopper's, and have seen it in Walrmart. I'm in Ottawa.
