We just got back home at 1am this morning, after staying a week at the Esmeralda (4th - 11th)
The ocean was very rough the last 3 days of our trip, and eroded much of the beach - all the way up to where the watersports shop is.
Yesterday around 10am there were whistles blowing everywhere at the beach. The huge mast of the shipwreck fell off! After 30+ years it just gave way, and the poor ship was getting hammered by huge waves. Shortly after that, a huge piece of debris (about the size of a beach lounger) washed ashore.
BUT the scariest thing was the whole concrete pad of the watersports / diveshop completely caved in! I sure hope no one was on it at the time, it looked like an earthquake had hit it. I have pictures which I will try and upload later (just woke up).
The staff tried their best to keep everyone away from the area, but knowing that it's a major stretch of the beach that was difficult at best. They ever taped off the whole area and the beach with "caution" tape. Tons of security, police and lifeguards were there too.
The poor beach, I have no idea how long it will take them to fix it. It was pretty crazy to see though :o
