Hi Mizz,

At all resorts you will find young, old, couples, kiddies (except Adult only), singles, etc. It is really a hit or miss when it comes to wanting a specific type of resort cause it all depends on who else is staying there when you are.

That being said your best bet is to stay at a "medium/large" resort that possibly has a few different sections, compared to a small resort.

As your not looking for "honeymoon atmosphere" I gather you want the more "party type" *or at least "lively" atmosphere and people your age that you can meet and hang out with. That gets difficult at small resorts with lets say 400 rooms. Nightlife then is more non existent and your likely to find 10 people in the small resort disco. When you stay at a large resort, not only is there more to do day and night but your chances become better for more people in your age group.

Then it depends on your budget and location you want to be around. Finally anything else you want from a resort such as top shelf liquor, ala cartes every night, luxury, adult only, etc, etc.

Hmm I was thinking of Paradisus - but not sure... then I was thinking the Riu properties... Hard Rock seems good but a little pricey for DR

Yes Hard Rock is a given but your absolutely right it is pricey. It is also pretty far North of the Airport and if you wanted to go off the resort to some of the local bars or other popular tourist clubs it would be further away and cost more on taxi's.

Paradisus don't know much about that resort but previous threads have had many mention lots of other people your age group. It is in a good location for off resort things on a nice stretch of beach.

Rui I would have to say if you seek nightlife it might not be the place. The on resort disco called Pacha you get free entry but have to pay for drinks 5 or 6$ plus per drink. Many would prefer to go off resort to a popular place given that drinks are the same price. Picture of Pacha below.

Now I have not stayed at Rui so can't comment on the resort or singles atmosphere but I have been to their disco when staying next door at the Bahia. It looked exactly like pictures above with maybe 20 people in it. 6 of the 20 was our group. There was a recent review on the forums by someone staying at the Rui and I believe the title was "you want boring this is the place" and also mentioned the disco was even closed. I presume they close it some nights when no one goes to it.

Now since you considered Rui right next door is the Bahia complex that you might want to look into. Plenty off things to do day and night.

I recently assisted another traveler that wanted to celebrate her 30th birthday with her girlfriends and it was very important to her to have more of a lively resort, some partying and plenty of people around her age group. She ended up staying at the Bahia after I gave her all the information and after her trip here is the response I got back from her "Probably one of the best trips I've been on...was amazing like that's all I could say lol...now I know why ppl always keep going back there...I definitely would!!" I can only take that as she had a great time :)

Bahia is also my favorite resort. Been 3 times. Also being in the late 20s it is most important to have the lively atmosphere, party type, other singles, etc and I've found that at the Bahia. There is so much to do day and night your never bored. Every pool has a swim up bar, beach bars, lobby bars, theater bar there is also a section called Pueblo Principe which has shopping, casino, terrace/sports/piano/karaoke bar and disco.

The disco is free and bigger then most on resort discos. Here is a youtube, bit dark, but the person filming walks around the disco halfway through so you can kinda get an idea of the size of it.

Plus Bahia is 5 resorts in 1 so you have options to stay in cream of the crop luxury section, adults only, butler service, ala cartes each night, top shelf liquor and still have access to the rest of the resort. Or you can stay in other sections that don't offer the "top" amenities but still an excellent time.

The Bavaro Princess was enjoyful as well and we met many other people. They also have a free disco but the only downside of BP was lack of things to do in the evening. It was pretty much lobby bar, see the show, back to lobby bar to wait for disco to open but resort is in excellent location for walking off resort to other places.

Occidental has a lot of a younger crowd as the popular Mangu nightclub is there. However if bars are important to you they close at 1am on the resort. Guests staying at Occidental get free entry into Mangu but you pay for drinks like everyone else that goes from every other resort. So if that is important things for you to be able to go have a dance and a drink at night without having to pay for every drink then you might not want to stay there. Stay somewhere where the resort has its own decent nightlife and free disco and when you feel like going off resort then you can take a taxi to one of the popular tourist clubs.

Other threads have mentioned people saying the melia, barcelo, palladium have been good for young singles as well.

Hope this helps you!

Hey ...I'm with Bigjim in recommending the Bahia resort one of the best I've stayed at ....so good i'm going back for a 3rd time in January ......it's lively but you can do as much or as little as u want ...there are plenty of pools, and bars to choose from and it has one of the most lively on site disco's, or you can just chill out side the Karaoke bar under the stars, and if your peckish after dancing the night away there is a late night snack bar :-) .....the only down side is if you do decide to go off resort the Bahia is a good taxi ride from some of the tourist clubs / bars like Mangu and Jewel :-(

Hi Valtravelpal,

The adults only section of Bahia is called the Luxury Ambar. It is a cream of the crop luxury section. Some of the things you get is Butler service, Ala cartes every night, top shelf liquor, private pools, private section of the beach (where the loungers are is private. All beaches are public so of course by the water they might be people or kids playing, walking by, etc), room service, pillow menu and much more.

You also get access to pretty much the entire resort. Which is good so you can mix when you want "lively" and when you want "relaxation". So you can enjoy the amenities at the Luxury Esmeralda section, also you can go to the Bavaro/Punta Cana sections. Take note only allowed to use your own buffet in whatever section you choose. Also "top shelf liquor" is only included when your in the Ambar or Esmeralda section. Bavaro/Punta Cana section it is not included as they have a different liquor menu (national brands of hard liquor) which is free for you as well. If you still wanted "top shelf liquor" when your in those sections it can be ordered for fee.

Hum shoot we just booked for the Majestic Colonial Club but this sounds nice. I think we stopped by this resort on a shuttle to the airport. Is this a HUGE resort?
