'local' Bavaro beach bars

Hi all. I'm staying at the Bahia Principe Ambar in September for 2 weeks, can't wait!

We're thinking 2 weeks is a lot of evenings in one resort, even though it's quite large, so an evening 'excursion' or two might be good. Does anyone know if there are likely to be many/any locals beach bars nearby that we could go hang out in? Presumably it's safe to do that? Could be fun for a couple of nights to break things up! Cheers.

PC doesn't really have a central bar area but there are a few things dotted about and some Discos but they are not cheap add in the Cab etc. and I'll doubt you'll get much change out of $100/$150- or so for not very much. Transport is also difficult in the Evening without Cabs. You're more likely to meet just a few stragglers from other Hotels than anything else and you can meet them where you are for nothing! lol

The Bahias are one of the best for nightlife as you have the use of all the other resort hotels, disco, karaoke, shows, bands and about 5 lobby bars - also there is a snack bar which serves drinks allnight on the Beach.

You'd be amazed at how quickly the time goes - we went to the Ambar for 3 weeks last time and it just flew by!

We have been out Bar hopping in Sosua but PC doesn't really have anything like that yet.

thanks for replying peeps....

I was kind of wondering more along the lines of small 'locals' bars on the beach, walkable from the Ambar, that wouldn't be on the map....it can be fun to hang out with the locals sometimes huh....so was wondering if people had experience of walking along the beach from any of the resorts and know if there are places tucked away that might be good...no worries if not....we'll go for a wander, and I'll report back after our trip!! cheers all.

You'd be surprised who you'll meet in the Hotels. We have hung out with Venezuelans, Germans, French, Dominicans, Ukrainians etc. the Bahia is very International and all seem friendly.

PC was built up around the Hotels so hasn't really found it's place as a local haunt yet. imo

The Beach goes on for miles and miles and there are a few bars along the way but we haven't noticed many people in them.
