So many choices! Help!

Hi all!

My partner and I are traveling to Punta Cana in April 2014. We're looking at a number of resorts but are overwhelmed with the choices and are clueless which one to pick! Here is what we are looking for:

- great service

- nice beach and pool area

- nice sophisticated crowd : no children , no spring breakers

- swim up bar ( top shelf liquor not needed, but the ability to get unlimited piña coladas, mojitos and wine at dinner without a struggle is a must!)

- good food (reservations only is fine)

- don't want to feel like we are just two guests of 100000

-luxury feel

- tennis court with pro (not necessary but def a plus)

From what we can see so far, Zoetry fits this description but I'm a bit concerned about the quality of the beach. Also been looking at the hard rock and iberostar grand. Maximum budget : around what the Zoetry would cost.

Suggestions ?

Any help is greatly appreciated ! So many choices!!!

Zoetry is very nice. It's a small resort, with only about 50 rooms (although they're expanding), and not a lot of nightlife, but high quality. Kids are allowed, but you probably won't see more than a few. I haven't stayed there but visited while staying at Excellence.

Excellence is a mile or so down the beach from Zoetry. It's about 450 rooms. Beautiful beach, but typically rough waves. No kids at all, and a nice level of entertainment. 8 a la carte restaurants, and no reservations for dinner. Three tennis courts (two clay and one hard court, and an instructor).

Both of these have a tropical, villa style to them.

Iberostar Grand Bavaro is a top notch AO resort with a more posh / glitzy feel. It's largely self-contained within a larger complex, so very little need to leave the AO area. I've only visited it while staying at Iberostar Bavaro.

Breathless is another option, a couple of miles further down the beach from Excellence. It is opening Nov 15, but promises to be a nice AO resort, less couples oriented, more lively.

Sanctuary Cap Cana is another you might want to look at, south of the airport. I haven't been there, but it looks gorgeous, and I think it would be in your price range.

You won't have a problem getting whatever drinks you want at any of these, top shelf or otherwise.

We were at Excellence a few years ago and my husband thought the tennis pro was amazing, if I remember correctly his name was Renaldo.

Hi Rob :) We stayed at Zoetry last year and are returning in July 2014. Just to add to what Mark said, it is a beautiful, tropical resort - it has that feel that you're on your own tropical island. Their renovations include adding another pool and restaurant, along with about 42 or so more rooms.

With Excellence being a mile away on one side, and Sivory far enough away on the other, the beach is exquisitely quiet - very, very little foot traffic and no boat traffic. The sand is more of a light brown-sugary-beige, but is amazing and very soft. The ocean is gorgeous, and there's a protective reef way out in front, that make the water perfectly swimmable.

There are no reservations for dinner, and the a la cartes rotate for nightly dinner service - usually 2 open each night we were there - not sure how this will change with the addition of the new restaurant...

We had an incredible time!! It's true the nightlife was very quiet - the lobby bar hosted three minstrels in the evenings, but we enjoyed gathering with other guests and relaxing. I hear there may be more going on after the renovations. The staff while we were there was simply amazing, and we never wanted for anything.

For us, it really was tropical elegance - "deserted island with white linen", lol. Feel free to check out my review for greater details - I warn you though, it's pretty long, lol.

Enjoy your trip, wherever you decide to stay :D

by those requirements the Zoerty would be my first choice.

don't worry about the beach, the Zoetry is located in a beautiful small piece of a Bay, nice secluded, no boats running in front of the roped in swimming zones as they do at the other mentioned properties(except the Sanctuary, no boat traffic there neither), i would prefer the Zoetry Beach anytime over the boat hi9ghways and more crowded beachstretches at the hotels around the Iberostar GRand(just talking the beach, the Grand itself is a top hotel).

as for the Hard Rock, if just taking the Beach it would be the least of my choices throughout Punta Cana(again, just comparing the requested beaches).

at Zoetry you are in an tropical atmosphere which gives you the feel to be at your own relaxing place with a hundred 24/7/365 smiling employees at your service. they allow children there, but i never saw any number of children present, never encountered any bothering.

the Iberostar Grand is a top spot, not tropical styled, the feel is more cold and flashy, the beach stretch there is part of the very busy Mainstrip Beachmiles in Bavaro, heavy boattraffic all day long and many people walking the beach all day long.

the Hard Rock, it is on most points the opposite of what you asked for. it is a Cement City, super large, here you get your mentioned feel to be 1 of 100.000 . their beach is very rough and not any pretty prepared, has more the feel of a large wide Florida Beach ready to receive a additional 10.000 guests over a holiday weekend. services at hard rock are pretty good, they have the only Casino on their ground which deserves to be named a Casino in Punta Cana, provide their own Golf Course and have a open to the public very lively Nightclub on the property. it offers a different feel, nothing tropical, it could be built on Miami Beach.

the Sanctuary would also be a suitable choice. picture perfect white sandy beach, year around super calm waters, just mere 10 minutes from the airport, small bouthique styled, tropical feel, very good services, very little nighlife as typical for the smaller bouthique styled hotels. also here are children allowed, but never found any amount of them at the same time, never been bothered

i never paid attention to Tennis or any sweat Sport on vacay, so i can't comment on their courts or availability of a Pro Trainer at any of the properties.

have fun

We loved Iberostar Grand Bavaro and it would definitely meet your needs - haven't stayed at Zoetry or Excellence but they both sound fantastic also. Sorry, don't know about the tennis though as we don't play.

If it helps if you check out my reviews you will find one for several of the resorts that have been mentioned all of which have links to large photo albums of the properties
