College Spring Break Destinations?

We have a group of guys and girls looking to go somewhere tropical for spring break! while we definitely want a night life and a younger crowd, we don't want Panama City Beach style (aka trashy). Where would you recommend? Cancun? Punta Cana? Which resorts specifically?

Thanks!

Cancun is the place for Spring Breakers.

The tour companies offer a few places in Punta Cana, but there are not as many clubs and such off resort.

What you will find in PC is nice beaches big to above average pools other then the nightly show and resort casinos theres not much. One of the things about Punta Cana is there is no real town area for tourists. Cancun or Playa Del Carmen Would be better. I would check out resorts in playacar there you get the AI,nice beach, nightly show, they all have a resort disco. On top of that its only a $7 cab ride into PDC to bars like Senior Frogs, Coco Loco, etc.

Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. As another poster suggested if you stay at a resort in the Playacar area you can even walk into Playa Del Carmen or it is an inexpensive cab ride back if you go to a nightclub in Playa. The beach in Playa Del Carmen is much nicer than Cancun...many beaches in Cancun have strong undertow so not the greatest for swimming...but the water outside the resorts in Playa Del Carmen is calm much better for beaching it than Cancun. I know you main interested will most likely be to party and go clubbing??? but Playa Del Carmen also has easy access to the area's "things to do"... I'd recommend Playa Del Carmen over Punta Cana for sure!!! Riu Tequila often has good prices..check that one out.

If your group I is looking to go bar hoping, punta cana isnt it. Now if you group are comfortable staying on the resort for everything, theres alot to choose from.

What age group ? Whats the budget?

Actually, from what I've read, Punta Cana has become a very popular destination for spring break - although Cancun is still also very popular too. My daughters have been to the Oasis in Cancun and really liked it - they also had fun in Cabo San Lucas. I'm going with them to Playacar at the end of April - as previously mentioned, it's fun to go out to Playa del Carmen and it's very safe.

These Punta Cana resorts are offered as spring break hotels through various tour groups like S-trip:

Occidental, Barcelo Dominican Beach, Gran Bahia Principe

@momluvstorun=It really depends on what you want to do. If you wanna chill at the beach and pool with your friends and drink, you are fine but if you want to club or barhop, it is not the place to go. I mean, there are places to go but you have to either be staying at a nearby resort to walk to them or take taxis or the gua gua. I go with everyone and say Cancun or Jamaica, specifically Negril

I have been going to Jamaica for thirty some years and to my knowledge and IME Negril and Jamaica in general is not really a spring break destination - there are much cheaper places for young partiers.

I also recommend Cancun and Playa Del Carmen for the OP.

@ dawnskye - I'm not recommending Punta Cana as a better place over Cancun - in fact, I actually said that my daughters loved going to Cancun. What I was saying in my post that Punta Cana has become a very popular destination as well as Cancun, so it's certainly worth checking out - see this thread ...

@judyper-I'd recommend Negril because of 7 mile beach where you can bar hop and restaurant hop to your hearts content and not have to worry over a taxi.

@momluvstorun-Not saying you are reccomending PC over other destinations. PC is a great destination but, like anyplace else, it ain't for everone. Some folks want to walk from bar to bar and club to club, others want to find a spot and chill there. Like the Bahia seems to have a fun atmosphere if you want to stay on the resort and party there but you have to taxi it if you want to go anywhere else. Other resorts closer to bars and stuff might be better but you simply do not have the same nightlife as you do in Negril or Cancun. It's a matter of preference I guess.
