Excellence Club over Regular Service

I have been to the Excellence Cancun twice and both times we did not opt for the "Excellence Club" and we absolutely LOVED everything about this resort. We are going to try Excellence Punta Cana this April and want to know if booking the ``excellence club package`` is worth the extra money.

Excellence Club at EPC is no different than it is at Excellence Riviera Cancun, except that at ERC there is a separate pool for Club and there isn't a separate pool for Club at EPC. There is a Club beach area though. It's right in front of the lazy river pool that runs along the edge of the beach.

Just my thought process with our decision... We were at the Excellence PM in Mexico and did not do the club. Had a GREAT time. We are going to the Excellence PC later this week. We did not opt for the club. My thought process is you get the same restaurants, service (for the most part), pools, rooms, entertainment, casino, beautiful property, etc. The special designated beach area, hard liquor in the room, upgraded personal items in your bathroom and club lounge were not enough for me to upgrade. I would rather have a bar tender mix me a drink and there is beer in the mini fridge if I want it. Many people who upgrade swear by it, but for me it doesn't make a difference. Actually, the private beach area and private pool in Mexico were empty. No beach volleyball, pool activities, etc. I may change my opinion after this trip, but I will have a great time regardless.

I second Chris H opinion. We were there in October /13 as non club guests. ( we did try club at EPM last year) They do supply hard liquor in ALL rooms now, plus the beer etc. The rooms are generally all the same ( club and Non Club) Everyone uses the same restaurants, no reservations. No special pool area for club guests and we had regular and great bar service either on the beach or around the pool and we liked the lounge chairs in the non club beach as they were the stretched nylon web type vs the hard wooden slat loungers used in the roped off club beach area. The staff are fantastic to everyone and as no one wears wrist bands they don't know if you are club or not unless they ask your room number.

We just got back a couple weeks ago and had upgraded to club. As many have pointed out, restaurants are the same, no separate pool, a small separate beach area that seemed crammed. If I returned, I wouldn't upgrade as the regular service offers just about as much.

We will be staying at the Excellence for the first time in April. We have stayed at one other Punta Cana resort twice, the first time non-club and the second time club, and although we really enjoyed the Club extras at that resort, such as the club pools, swim up bars, and club lounge, spending most of our time in club designated areas, especially the club beach section, took us away from most of the activities, which I missed. My wife not so much, but I did. I guess it all depends on what your personal preferences are. I did, however, enjoy one of the club pools very much, which made the upgrade well worth it. Considering all of the Excellence pools are non-club, I don't think the cost of the upgrade is worth it for us.

Thanks so much for your reply, this was very helpful! I didn't think we needed to upgrade either and this response just helped solidify it. Cheers!

What about room choices? We'd love an ocean view room and see the only ocean view option is club. We wonder how much ocean view there is and is it really worth the extra cost?

There are two types of ocean view rooms for non-Club: Junior Suite Ocean View, and Excellence Suite Ocean View. Excellence Suites are larger, and have balconies facing in two directions, at a 45 degree angle or so. Buildings 1, 3 and 14 have Excellence Suites. The ocean view rooms in building 3 have a particularly good view of the ocean, but all are good except the ones in building 6 (it looks over The Grill).

It's not worth the extra cost to me, but it is to many people. I don't spend that much time in my room, and I'm looking at the ocean all day, so I don't need a view of it from my room. I do like the Excellence Suites though.

I would have to agree with everyone else. We were there last year and had the same debate. We decided to not do the upgrade and in the end we were happy. We were not sure how they could have done anything better. The serve was wonderful! Yes there is a separate beach but the beach is so big that it is not a big deal and not sure what they were offered that we were not offered. The other thing is we usually like to go down to the beach but in the end spend more time at the pool because it is cleaner - don't have to deal with sand being all over you. Enjoy your trip! You will love it. I hear the bus ride is only 30 minutes, it was much longer for us.

As far as the rooms choices, we had ocean view/swim up and ended up in the Excellence Club even though we did not pay for it. The 3 others had ocean view/swim up - they could see the ocean but it was somewhat limited because of the way their room was located. the other couple had ocean view - 2nd floor but their view was obstructed by one of the restaurants. The upgrade is up to you. We debated between ocean view and swim up. In the end I convinced everyone to do swim up because the ocean is so far from the room. There layout is different from other resorts, if google earth the resort you will see the resort has a big beach. When we went to book they ran out swim up rooms so one couple got a ocean view. Depending how much use your room will depend on the room you want.

I hate to do this but we are considering going to ERC or EC next year? I am trying to decide which one would be better. any suggestions would be great.
