did my homework, narrowed it down and now in need of help :)

My husband and I (mid 40s) are taking our 2 adult sons, daughter and son-in-law on vacation in May (the kids are in their 20s). We would prefer an adults only resort but it is not a deal breaker (if there are resorts that tend to have less kids), we would like clean rooms, decent food (gourmet is not necessary and we prefer to not have to make reservations), swim up bar preferred but also not a deal breaker, must have clear ocean water and nice beach. Another must, double beds because my sons will be sharing a room and do not want to sleep in the bed togetger.

I have narrowed it down to (based on my budget) : majestic colonial ao, riu Palace macao, Barcelo bavaro beach ao, and catalonia bavaro beach (my top pick but hubby worried about kids).

I think that sums it up. Please help because I would love to book asap.

As far as I know, Majestic Colonial does not require reservations for dinner. If your pick is Catalonia Bavaro, their sister resort next door, Catalonia Royal, is AO - you can use the amenities/restaurants of the Catalonia Bavaro as a guest of the Cat Royal.

Good luck choosing and enjoy your trip wherever you end up :D

Of those, based on your requirements, I'd choose Majestic. No reservations (for the most part), an adult only section but will have people your sons' age. The water isn't as calm as it is at Barcelo Bavaro, but at that time of year it should be good.

My true first pick was Catalonia Royal Bavaro and then I saw that all rooms have king beds. I was sooo disappointed.

Thank you both for such quick responses.

From what You are looking for, We would definitely recommend the Majestic Colonial, We have stayed there, and had a really Great time. From the Beach, the Pools, the Food, the Fun, small casino, sports bar, entertainment, nightly shows, nightly band entertainment on outside patio, the Majestic would be perfect for All of You. One other thing that We really liked was that We booked a swim-out room, with patio, lounge chairs, about ten feet of grass with short bushes between neighboring rooms, and just slide into your more private part of the main pool, for just a little more money per room, highly recommend, if You don't like walking around the pool to find loungers. Go with the Majestic Colonial, You'll be more than Happy that You did, (neither one of Us, are Used Car Sales people, lol). Best Wishes, and Enjoy your Vacation. Leo & Sue ps. In over the many years of traveling to resorts in Punta Cana, and the Riviera Maya area of Mexico, we have always found that Expedia, has the best bookings, very helpful, and the best prices, do compare any other travel site, and will ALMOST guarantee, that You'll find Expedia, the Best to do Business with, btw, neither one of us are Sales people for Expedia, either, lol

One other thing to remember is that as May goes on, it gets into the more rainy season, not rain all the time, but with daily, sometimes heavy showers that may last an hour or so. We have found that the last week of April, through the first week of May, is better, with more spotty, hit and miss showers, when it does rain, it is not as often, or as heavy as mid-late May. Just a thought to keep in mind, when You do pick the week for your vacation. Best Wishes, Leo & Sue

Thanks, papileo (Leo and Sue)! I always book through expedia as they seem to always have the lowest price :) Unfortunately, we are going in late May but we've been to the Caribbean and experienced the showers and they never bothered us. I guess I'm going to book today because the flights are filling up (that's what caused my change from Riviera Maya to Punta Cana -price went up $1, 000 overnight).
