food, it's AI Food, i personally would not choose any of the AI properties from 1 star to 5 stars over the other for AI-Food. for foodies i would book a hotel without AI and good restaurants on grounds.

they have numerous pools, not far from the ocean, you always find the relaxed quiet and the same time the action packed animated pools.

activities, the Barcelo is a large property, by grounds the far largest in PC as far as AI Resorts go(the non AI Punta Cana Resort &Club is many times larger of course), and they offer a almost unlimited variety of activities, own golf course, own casino, tennis courts, basketball and soccer fields, waterparks for different ages etc etc etc.

layout/beach, on this point the Barcelo is the best in PC imho. big but built nicely along the beach, not landwards as most other big properties, so you are never far from the beach. the ebach itself is the perfect pure white sandy turquoie shimmering waters postcard picture beach, supercalm waters all around the year for swimming with children, beach is very wide, very long, the by far spaciest any resort has to offer(again with exception of the Non AI PC Resort&Club with their many miles of perfect and PRIVATE Beach), no towlgames necessary, you find a spot in the shade or in the sun, what ever you prefer, at any given time.

the only downpoint from my side is that they are one of the numerous Times Share/Vacation Club properties here, it is the only reason why i choose other hotels during the last years.

happy travels

Thanks nice post...

For food I meant more along the lines of at letas being good quality. Also its nice if you dont have to make many reservations or have crazy dress codes or have to wait in lines for hours. On top of that its nice when you can eat at all 15 restaurants in the hotel block vs only 6 of them do to hotel limitations or package limitations.

I dont know what being a part of a time share means???

Thanks again

the Barcelo requires reservations for their a la carte restaurants(some people prefer that, i personally dont like it and choose locations where no reservations are required, personal choice).

part of time share means that many of the hotels here, including the Barcelo, are time share properties/vacation clubs, it's personal choice, some folks love that thing, i myself hate it/see it as scam, so you have their sales people around offering free t-shirts and coffee machines and extra resort credits etc etc etc if you attend their sales pitch. don't worry, it is not as bad as it sounds when i tell about it, i just hate those scammers and the way those companies work.

how often and at how many restaurants you can eat is for each hotel described in their brochure/on their website, there are for most hotels even different packages available, like if you stay a certain amount of nights you have a certain amount of a la carte stays, other properties offer such unlimited(you could even eat at 2 or 3 a la carte restaurants during the same evening without reservation) etc etc. you need to check the inclusions for each hotel on their websites or with your Travel Agent/Package seller.

I agree with everything Mike said, except about the food not being different at AI resorts. Food is very subjective, so opinions will vary, but I have found it to be typically better at some than at others. I thought the food at Barcelo Bavaro was suitable for the prices to stay there, but I've had better. I wouldn't choose to not go there because of it, and I wouldn't choose to go there because of it. It's fine.

What I don't like are the reservations / restrictions for dinners there, and at multiple other resorts. Like Mike, I much prefer no reservations. I like to not have to plan ahead as to what time and where I'm going to eat, and even possibly go to more than one restaurant in an evening. I also don't like limitations on how many a la cartes I can eat at in a given stay.

The timeshare crap is unfortunately present at many resorts. It's annoying, but just say "no" and don't let it get to you.

Great beach at Barcelo Bavaro, and most of the rooms are close to the beach. No palapas on the beach, but lots of palm trees.

I wont drop or add a place strictly based on food its just part of my criteria for go or no go...

I like to eat so I want quantity along with quality and I HATE to wait lol...

The sales people wont bother me if thats all the time share thing bring up...

I am a huge fan of the Barcelo chain and have stayed at the Tucancun in Cancun many times. What irritates me is having to pay a fee for room service and your safe. Most places have gotten away from those types of charges...

I thought I read they charge you to eat at the other restaurants as well….I don't like the nickel and dime feeling…

I literally want to get into the airport be picked up by the hotel be taken to my room and be left alone to do as we please lol...
