Airport transfers

Hi, My husband and I are going to Riu Palace Macao from Manchester for 2 weeks on 26th March. It's our first time to Domincan Republic and we are very excited but have a couple of questions. I have read the thread about arrivals and departures and taxi rates which states $38 each way, is that price current and do you have to pre-book or are there taxis readily available, we arrive 14:45 on the Wednesday? Also, I have read the visa information, is it better to buy our entry visa beforehand to save queuing on arrival or is that only available to US and Canadians? Will we be ok with US $ 's for tips or do we need to change to local currency? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yes taxi's are readily available or you can look into a private transfer

Yes you can purchase the tourist cards online to save you some time. Here is the link

Yes USD is completely fine and accepted everywhere.. if you plan on spending lots of time "off" resort at local places and doing lots of shopping you might want to get some Peso's as you'd get a better price...

I did a transfer to Royalton with Gobecon which was $29 + tax= $35. It was so easy to book on internet, got a confirmation after booking and 24 hours before, someone at arrivals with sign and all paid by credit card (reward points:) so for me that was a win win situation to transfer to our hotel - fyi we were three people.

We are heading to Memories in July. I wanted to know is it better to use a private transfer company or a taxi?

Taxis are easier. Just look for the guys in the pink or beige shirts (these are the approved taxi companies). You'll be in a taxi and on your way in a few minutes. No pre-booking required.

Have you booked with Thomson? If so don't forget to tell the rep at the airport that you won't be using the coach transfer.

Have a great holiday!

Yes we did book with Thomson's and I have remembered about letting them know we won't be using their coach transfer. Thank you :)
