Packaged Food @ Grocery Stores

Wife and I would like to go to Punta Cana in May. One problem: I have a "Chronic Inflammatory Immune Response"...basically a compromised immune system, and I've noticed many many many tourists become ill when traveling to this island.

So, we'd only go if there were grocery stores that sold packaged foods that were shipped from U.S. (meats, bacon, bread, chips, pasta).

Anybody know if these kinds of items are available at their stores? thank you

Lol. Sounds funny, but my life depends on it. For example, packaged sandwich meats, Hormel bacon, Tyson chicken.

Been able to find it in Aruba, Cayman...

Because getting sick is such a big problem in DR, I can't book a trip unless I find this out.

maybe someone who lives in PC will answer, just because it is a familiar brand does not mean it was packaged in the US, the bottled water at my resort is a familiar brand but it is bottled in the DR, even the coke products are sl different and are bottled in the DR

Romans517,

Maybe if you asked for this information on another forum say DR1 which will have regular posts from expats and locals living in the area. They could perhaps help you..... Must be a real problem for you when you travel so guess you really need to be sure before booking a trip.

Good luck.

I think some of us have answered her questions very well here?

I'd like to know which resort she is going to so we can let her know where the closest grocery store is.

If you stop at one of the major food stores (Jumbo, Super Polo ? National etc) they will all have packaged meats and things (Butterball, Tyson, and so on) but very expensive.
