Should we go ahead and book?

My wife and I have been deciding whether to go to PC for some months now. We had our hearts set on Secrets RB in mid-July but reading into 100's of pages of reviews ended up making us doubt our decision, we then thought about whether it was a good idea to go in July with it being hurricane season but we are pretty much stuck as it is the only time we can both get off of our jobs. Our final concern is whether we would be ok being confined to a resort for food and entertainment and whether the food would be any good. So many mixed reviews but the hotel is in our price range and looks really nice.

Advice please guys. Should we just book our trip?

No other destination appeals to us as we want to try somewhere new!

Thanks

Jay

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I cannot speak about SRB, although it has always been on our "radar" and looks lovely! You do have access to NOW Larimar next door for dining and entertainment, and you could always venture out of the resort to a local bar or restaurant should you choose - others will know more about what is in the area.

As far as going in July, we too are travelling to PC in mid-July and are not really at all concerned about the weather. We trust it will be sunny and fabulous! Our last trip was in August of 2012, also hurricane season, but we had hot, beautiful weather and learned not to bother looking at any forecasts.

I say go ahead and book it! PC is a beautiful place with wonderful people and I'm sure you'd enjoy yourself :D

Go for it. Its nice and hot in july/august. We went to punta cana last year late july, we had a nice storm 1 late night out of 8 days. It was entertaining looking at the lightning far out in the ocean, from the terrace. Lol.

It didnt rain at all during the day.

Jay, You'll be fine going to PC in July, which is kind of early in the hurricane season, more likely that you will see only hit and miss showers, that only last about a half hour then the skies clear quickly to partly sunny days. One thought though, would suggest You compare Secrets to other resorts that are in the top twelve, like the Bahia Ambar, Majestic Elegance, and the Majestic Colonial. The food at the mentioned resorts are good to excellent, and book a swim-out room, so to save yourselves from wandering around the pool, looking for loungers, and palapas, we had a swim-out room at the Majestic and Loved it after returning from the beach in the afternoon, you would have your out patio, table/chairs, loungers, about 12 feet of grass before sliding into the pool, small bushes between neighboring rooms, and a little more private place to just slide into the pool without a whole lot of people to contend with.
