Flight Deal - For those that can fly from FLL

If your looking for a last minute getaway and want cheap flight fares check out the cheapy airline Spirit that is direct out of Fort Lauderdale.

Here is one date that you can fly round trip for under $250 (not including bags)

May 20th to 28th - enter promo code "10OFF"....

Round Trip flight total - $248.08

You can bring one personal item free (there is a size limit) but for example a school bag. A checked bag 62 linear inches, max weight 40 pounds is $30 each way.

So total price for round trip direct flight with 1 checked bag comes to $308.08. (Optional if you want to pay a fee to book seats in advance)

Tell me about it Mike, plane fares are so expensive especially in Canada ( due to the taxes).. I use the cheapy Spirit airline all the time from US... Canada to Florida is like $400 round trip, but I drive over the US borde to the airport (40 min drive) their and fly for $120 round trip. Great to cause no immigration on arrival since that part was done when driving over the border.

But yes there is 2 cheapy airlines in the USA.. Spirit and Allegiant... that can basically get you anywhere in the USA for less then any other airline (if you plan right and watch their deals). In the past I was planning a trip (didn't pan out) but from where I reside my 3 week trip I was planning fly from across the border to Vegas, then fly Vegas to Los Angeles, then Los Angeles to Hawaii, Hawaii to Vegas, Vegas back home... was a total of $450 per person. Those prices can't be beat :)

Met a couple in Caberete when I was there in Sept.. They were flying to FLL then planned on renting a car to drive to New York to catch their flight home overseas.. Some ridicoulous price they said for the car rental.. Told them about Spirit and they ended up pay $85 each FLL to JFK.. so they had more time in Florida (instead of the 2 day drive).... they treated me very well at the beach bar that night LOL

i like that, specially that Beach Bar Finish. like the always Happy End Stories i read to my Babygirl, haha.

Jim,

stop telling me about those darn cheap flights in the USA, i travelled thru that country for a time period of over 6 years, or should i say i did it for wide oart on Horseback, but that's still travelling, right? i was always jellous on the airfares there compared to what i have to pay elsewhere. i am sheduled for a 2 months Europe sweep this summer, with all 3 of my girls(yes, now it's 3 because the dog is also a female and will join, too).

what best deal do you find from Punta Cana to Frankfurt(of course prefered without a stop) for 2 adults and a by that time almost 4 years old girl(she will still be 3 on return) and a Chihuahua girlie which will fly as handluggage(i know, she does not cost extra, just wanted to mention Lucy, as she is for us a full family member, thanks god i don't need to by an other ticket for her). we are very flexible on the dates.

we want to leave after mid august and wanna stay for a good 6 weeks, we sure wanna be in Germany the week of Sept 17th-26th, as we have several significant birthdays to celebrate during that short time frame.

what i found til now does not deserve the name "good deal" in any way, lol.

Mike,

One fine afternoon a few years ago sitting at the airport bar in ATL waiting on a 3 hour connecting flight I meet this fantastic couple. A great convo and beers but what sentence they said has stuck with me since.

That sentence was "If your flexible don't give an airline your money when it's not necessary". At first I did not understand what they meant until they explained.

They explained that if you need to get to point A to B and the price is 3 times more then doing A,B,C and making a mini vacation to visit a new city for a night or two between B.C then it's much more worth the trip then simply giving an airline the money.

What they basically meant is... Lets say on Friday I want to get to my vacation home in Florida but the price of the flight is $300. If I did some research right now (cheapy airline Spirit).. I can fly from the same airport, direct to Myrtle beach for $50. I can then get a decent hotel on the beach in Myrtle Beach for 2 nights for $150. Finally I can get an early morning flight on checkout day direct from Myrtle Beach to Florida for $60.

So rather then spending $300 to fly point A to B, I add the C and get a mini vacation to somewhere I probably would not go to and still get to my final destination for $40 cheaper then what I would have given to the airline in the first place... This couple made absolutely perfect sense!

I will keep an eye out for you and if anything great comes up I will send you a PM on DR1... I do my aunts flights all the time from MIA to Dusseldorf and my other friends from Can/Usa to Munich so I'll add the PUJ to Frankfurt to my list :)

Bigjim ..I am always curious about cross border flight deals. what port are you flying out of, do you need overnight accommodation and what parking charges. We go condo for extended time in DR so self drive is usually not an option and we are 3 + hours from Niagara border so usually would need overnight. but always looking for a deal and ways to avoid the nasty Canadian taxes.

Johendo,

For me I have 2 airport options that are both under an hour drive .. Plattsburgh (PBG) with the 2 cheapy airlines Spirit/Allegiant and Burlington (BTV) with USair, Delta, Jetblue, etc.

Parking at Plattsburgh is $5 a day (Burlington is a bit more at $12), used to be $3 and before that was free lol.. No need to stay overnight accommodation as flight times work out perfect but we also live close enough that it's not much more of a drive if we were flying at of Montreal.

For you out of Buffalo (IAG) both Spirit and Allegiant fly out of there. The 3+ hour drive is the problem though. It's if you want to take the drive or not. For 3 months in the DR I don't think you would be able to save money as it would be eaten by the parking fees.

However let's say you wanted to just to a US trip and take a few days vacation to Florida... Now that is VERY WELL worth it.

For instance on June 6th you could fly to Sanford (SFB) for $59 including tax (not including bag fee) on Allegiant. Flights at 5pm so would give you plenty of time to wake up early and do the 3 hour drive across the border with no overnight accommodation needed. Here is a screen shot showing the price at $59

http://postimg.org/image/5fdyebx9h/

SFB is under an hour drive to Orlando, Kissimmie, Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, etc.

Or for $95 on Spirit you could fly direct to Fort Lauderdale. A couple months ago I posted a screen shot that there was a deal from Buffalo to FLL for $25 including tax... The checked bag at $30 cost more then the flight LOL

I am sure you will agree that both those prices can't be beat on any airline in Canada.

The thing is that you always have to be watching as the 2 cheapy airline prices change drastically all the time an only last like 12 hours. One day it could be $188, then drop to $48 then back up to $108.

You really have to be able to "act now"... like you know you want to go in June, and you see that great deal then you have to book right away and then plan the rest later. For me it's a bit easier as we have family and vacation home in Florida (20 min from FLL airport) so when we book that great deal we don't have much more planning to do other then make a phone call and tell them to pick us up at the airport.

But wherever you want to go you need to play around with what each cheapy airline goes to... For example if you wanted to visit Orlando (disney world), then visit Cocoa Beach and afterwards wanted to visit Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Well it would cost you more to do 1 flight and a car rental then 2 flights.

What I mean by this is you could fly to SFB for $59... Rent a car (like 10$ a day)but after a short shuttle drive (35ish min) from SFB to MCO (maybe $20)...and rent the car at MCO (my reason for this will be explained below) for Orlando (Disney) then spend time in Cocoa Beach, even Daytona Beach all an hour driving distance....

Instead of keeping that rental car and driving 3 hours to Fort Lauderdale... which costs much more dropping off at different airports, etc... you could just bring it back to MCO and then jump on Spirit for a short flight (1 hour) for $30 direct to Fort Lauderdale... the gas driving from Orlando to MCO and back would be more then the flight!

You then do the rest of your trip FLL area and Miami area (only 39 miles between the to)... you could even add on Pompano Beach, DeerField Beach, Hollwood (where the Hard Rock casino is) all sections under an hour drive!

And when your trip is over then you simply take Spirit from FLL and fly back direct to Buffalo.....

So basically the cost of just flight from lets say Canada,,, if you did the cheapy airlines from US you would get much more out of your trip, more places to visit, and for pretty much the same price that you would pay just for your flight from Canada.

I haven't looked at Mike's case yet to Frankfurt (will do sometime this week) but thinking about it quickly.... if he could get a flight on cheapy Spirit for $98 from PUJ to FLL... spend a night or two vacation in that area (mia) area..

Then fly direct from MIA to Frankfurt and return direct Frankfurt to PUJ... then he might be able to squeeze in a 2 day mini vacation including hotel and still save $500 to $750 then what he would be paying just to fly out of PUJ.

You just never know what deal you will find that's the whole fun of searching :)

Buffalo airport says it's $50 a week to park... so yes I would have to say if you ever wanted to do a Florida trip your well within the saving money range.
