Joy, We just got back from the Bahia Ambar, which is Adults Only, and it was one of the Best that we have stayed at over the past ten years. The Beach is spectacular, always kept clean of seaweed by the early morning employees, mostly calm water with just soft, rolling, small waves, the beach has plenty of "palapas" to stay shaded from the sun, with wait staff taking your orders for drinks. Also to note, the beach is laid back, quiet, and subdued for relaxing, and tanning, no music or noise at the beach. The pool does have more activity going on, the swim up bar, music, dancing, zumba, but we spent mostly all day at the beach, as it was perfect for us. There is plenty of entertainment at the Bahia complex, nightly music in the Ambar lobby, but shuts down at 11pm, mostly for the middle age crowd, but for more nightly entertainment, you can take the "tram", to the sister resort, the Bahia Punta Cana, where there is an inside theater for the nightly shows, an outdoor theater where there is latin music, dancing, and drinks. There is also a Sports bar/Karoake at the Bahia Punta Cana, along with a small casino, and a late night Disco, where the DJ plays today's music for the 20 year old for some lively dancing, and drinking. Another great Fun night at the Ambar is the Sat night Beach Party, lights, video screen, dj playing today's music for drinking, and dancing in the sand on the beach, on the every other Sat. night, there is a Pool Party, that has the some atmosphere for the younger crowd, dj, drinking, and dancing around the Pool. The food at the Ambar was good to very good, the ala cartes, and the buffets, loved the omelets at the main Lobby buffet, and lunch at the Beach buffet, plenty of choices, from fresh ripe fruit, salad items, hot dogs, grilled/roasted chicken, and more. The Bahia Ambar would be an excellent resort for what you are looking for, a Great beach, good Food, nightly fun entertainment, and a hard working, helpful, and friendly staff, everywhere throughout the resort. We stayed there a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed it, and are thinking about going back to the Bahia Ambar again next April. It's a great resort, ranked in the top 10 of 101 resorts in Punta Cana, but is moderately priced compared to other top 15 resorts, suggest You take a look at the Ambar, read some reviews, and go from there. Best Wishes, Leo & Sue

For calm waters, something on Bavaro Beach and south of there. Here's a map: puntacanatv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/P…

If you're looking for adult only, and it's in your budget, Secrets Royal Beach would be nice. Very calm water and white sand. No reservations required for dinner. They have live bands at Secrets. The theatre and some of the restaurants are nextdoor at Now Larimar. Nextdoor to Secrets (on the other side) is Paradisus Palma Real, which has an adult only section. It's nice, but typically more expensive. Next to that is Melia Caribe Tropical, which also has an adult only section called The Level. It's a nice resort, but big. It's typically more affordable. Barcelo Bavaro Beach is the adult only part of the Barcelo Bavaro complex. The larger portion is Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe. It's very large, but it runs along the beach, so you're always close to the beach. It's also typically more affordable. It's hard to beat the beach there.
