Excellence, Majestic Elegance, Royalton, RS Turquesa, or..?

I am planning our annual anniversary trip and have decided on an AI in PC for end of April 2015. This will be our first time to PC but we’ve stayed in a few different AIs over the years for family vacations – Mexico and Costa Rica. For Thanksgiving 2014 we are returning to our favorite AI so far - the Palladium Riviera Maya - for the variety of things to do day and night and solid food, drinks and service. We’ve also enjoyed Carib Real (destination wedding), Barcelo Maya (upgraded to club premium), and Barcelo Tamarindo. I loved most everything about the Barcelo Maya – especially the pools being so close the beach – but I found it incredibly boring after dinner. I never found any live music or anything in the bars/lounges, etc. The adult kids loved the disco and such, but I prefer a more lively before/after dinner atmosphere.

Ok, since this trip is just my husband and me, I wanted to splurge a little on something a little more lux and romantic. Our “want” list:

Swim-out room

Lively/fun atmosphere – bars/lounges after dinner

Good drinks – I don’t need top shelf but do want good international brands

Relatively easy to get shaded chairs at beach and pool

Price under $5k total flying out of DFW

Newer/updated rooms if possible

Air conditioned eating areas

My list so far, in no particular order:

Majestic Elegance, Royalton, Royal Suites Turquesa, Excellence – am I missing any others?!

I’ve been scouring the boards for days and still not sure which of these would be our best fit. We aren’t super picky so I’m sure we’ll have a fantastic time wherever we go, but wanted to check with you experts out there if you feel any would be better suited for us than the other. Thank you!!

For Romance ME might fit, I am thinking about the Excellence as we saw ME and while nice, not worth the price tag. Royalton for their swim up in comparison to ME's fir sure. With ME you had to walk over the bridge to get to the ladder to get in and out of the pool. Not at all like the ones with access from your patio.

Have you considered Breathless Punta Cana? It is Adult only, on a beautiful beach, several swim up rooms, restaurants are air conditioned except two that are beach front and more open air type, upgraded alcohol and great service.

The resort has a great lively and social environment. At night there is live music, shows, disco and small casino. Every afternoon there is a pool party with DJ. You can join the party if you want or there is no problem finding other areas by other pools or beach that are quieter and more relaxed.

We have been to other adult only and found them to be a little too quiet at night. Breathless was the perfect mix of lively and relaxed.

I know very little about Royalton, as it opened in December. I can't adequately speak to the entertainment options at Majestic, but from others I know who have been there, it seems to be an enjoyable place.

At Excellence, the evening entertainment involves a sax player / piano combo at around 6pm. Then a live band and dancing in the courtyard by the beach, then the show, and then the live band again. There is sometimes a small band / singer by the Martini Bar late. There's also a dance club, and a casino. Some of the bars are open until midnight, and some until 1am, with a couple open until 2 or 3am. They also have a beach party and a pool soiree, each once per week.

Premium liquor is available everywhere, including in the room, where you get 5 full size bottles. Service by the pool and on the beach is top notch.

There are lots of swim-out rooms, and lots of ocean view rooms.

There are lots of thatch roof palapas, cabanas etc. by the pool and on the beach, and the beach is expansive, so it's not crowded. No problems getting shaded areas at any time of day.

There are outdoor / open air restaurants by the beach, as well as indoor, air conditioned restaurants, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

All of the rooms have been recently updated. They are not modern. The resort is done in a Spanish Colonial style, which I prefer because it's appropriate to the surroundings. It's a very tropical resort.

It is completely adult only (not attached to another resort), with 9 a la carte restaurants, and no reservations required. Majestic and RST also don't require reservations (Majestic does at two restaurants), but most of the restaurants are not adult only.
