March 28 Cruise stop on the Dawn

Please let me know how best to get from the ship to Playa Rincon.

How long is the trip and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks

It takes about 1 hour 20 min from the dock to get to Rincon. The road is super bad at the moment. It very well may be better by the end of March.

The price will vary depending on how many people you have.

Incidentally La Playita is a much shorter drive and a great alternative for Rincon. You can see Rincon from Playita and the same views as Rincon.

We were on that road last week from Samana to Las Galeras/Rincon and can second the warning about the awful road conditions. They're laying pipe in the roadbed and there were very many one-way sections under construction. The road surface or waht's left of it is in poor condition although it gets much better as you approach Las Galeras. The turnoff for Rincon is onto a gravel road which is much better than the torn up asphalt stretch east from Samana. Not ususally phased by road construction but this one was a doozy and our trip took over 1.5 hours.

What do you recommend for the day? How far is La Playita? 3 adults and 3 younger children.

La Playita is about 45 min or so. There are stretches of road construction to pass by as you take the same main road to go to both beaches. Where you turn off for Rincon is where the road gets better as you go continue on to Playita and the road to Rincon gets really bad.

You can contact a tour operator ahead of time or you can make arrangements on the dock as you come off of the tender boats.

How much should transportation cost to La Playita, and will they take US Dollars?

I don't know what the guides and the taxis are charging as I never go up to the dock to deal with them. It all depends on how many people you get together really.

They will take US dollars and all prices will be quoted in US dollars.
