We are coming to Grenada at the end of July. We were looking at flights and they are all expensive, complicated and don' t get to the island until the evening. Does anybody have a good suggestion for flights or creative combinations that get you there earlier or cheaper? Thanks

MIA is the hub for AA, which is going to probably make the most sense if you are coming from NC. My guess is you have to get to Charlotte, then MIA and from there catch the AA flight to GND. AA flights only get to the island in the evening. That is just how it is, unless you go up to JFK and take the Delta flight. Used to be that Delta only flew during high season which left the low season (summer, fall) travelers no choice but to catch the AA flight.

Also given that you are traveling end of July, you are running into Carnival season when a lot of locals go back home. Airfare prices will be high due to demand. Average airfare normally is in the $650-750+ range. Only during the very low season (Sept/Oct/early Nov) that I've seen airfares go down to the $500 level.

The AA flight from MIA leaves a little before 5pm. I would suggest CLT for the spoke flight since it has the shortest layover compared to GSO and RDU. In fact GSO layover is almost 8 hours! The good news for the MIA layover is La Carretta cafeteria near gate 30 or there abouts. Imperial Chicken is incredible. Take one to go so you will have food when you arrive in GND late.

The other option I think is Delta? from JFK which is basically a red eye and arrives like 5:30AM so you can drag your bags to the beach and chill until check in time.

Ohhh yes La Carreta in MIA rocks! We purposely plan long layovers in MIA just so we can eat leisurely at La Carreta. We usually take some to go for later too. Love their churrasco steak. And their soups.

Re food, there are some awesome cuban options in south beach and little cuba itself. We usually scream out of the airport, straight to sawgrass mills, then onto the anglers resort in south beach.
