dont agree with butler priority

Hi,just reading the reviews and I was surprised by what the butler gets up too LOL !.Myself and my husband are very easy going people, but I believe that if you are on holiday you should be treated the same as other guests when it comes to the public areas. Those people that choose to pay for butler service, that is fine by me,but butler service in my eyes is what you get in your room,as for having areas reserved around the resort which gives the butler priority to book on behalf of guests is just not on.This smacks as us and them syndrome,Is this just a posher version of people going down early too reserve their loungers by putting towels on them.I understand that these butler suites cost a lot more and people pay for the service, but public areas are for everybody and there should not be any CLASS distinction, just my opinion.I have visited many high class all inclusive resorts all over the carribean the only areas that are reserved are areas such as the vip sections which are child free, these I can understand if you don't want to be around noisy kids all day,but too have different areas at an all adults resort beats me.

In the case of the Butler fixing the table for his guest, The Butlers handle the dinner reservations for their guests. Those guests must have had a reservation already. The Butlers like to decorate the table for their guests before they escort them to it. We had Butler service at La Source and we couldn't always get the exact time that we were hoping for so I don't really feel that there is any special priority there. We most definitely were not able to get a reservation last minute if others were already booked or waiting.

Hi Pedinurse,it seems people have different experiences either with or without having a butler,i will never know what is happening unless I experience it myself. So I have decided to ignore the positive and negative reviews about butlers and wait to see what happens when I am there. The only thing I hope though is that I am not treated any different for not having a butler, I have paid a lot of money for this holiday and I expect to have the same service in the public areas as anybody else.

We just got back this week and let me assure you, the butler service guests did not take over the chairs at the beach or any of the pools. They also did not fill up the restaurants that require reservations or always get the best tables. I was up early every morning and there were almost equal number of chairs set up by butlers as there were by guests. I can also confirm that after 10:00 if the chairs that have not been occupied by a guest had the towels are removed.

As for Butch's and Kimono's, the butlers have a limited number of spots they can reserve for their guests. Once those spots are booked they can't get their guests a table. They have to move you to another time or another day just like anyone else. They also can not book a specific table for you. They can request it but if your reservation is at 8:00 and the guests who's reservation was a 7:00 are still sitting there, you get what ever table is available. The butler will sometimes try to get to the restaurant before your reservation and decorate your table and introduce you to the servers who will be looking after you while at the restaurant but after that, you are like any other guest in the room.

I think la Source has really listened to the comments on this message board and taken care of the problems. We didn't book a butler room and was watching the comments quite closely because I had a concern too. I was surprised when we got upgraded to a butler room and not sure if I would be comfortable with the services if other guests were not being treated well. Let me assure you, the additional services provided were not at the other guests expense. The butler services were not in your face and did not impact the other guests enjoyment or acess to restaurants or chairs. You may think I'm biased because I had a butler but I did my research and spoke to other guests who did not have a butler. They confirmed for me that the butler services were not inconviencing them or making them feel like second class guests in any way.

I hope that puts your concerns to rest. Go, enjoy and see for yourself.

I hope to write a full review in the next few days.

Thanks KK you have certainly put my mind to rest,we are very experienced Caribbean travellers, visited many islands and have always stayed at great resorts. We have stayed at one other Sandals resort and had a bad experience so decided we would not do Sandals again,However with this Sandals being new we thought we would give Sandals another go.We are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and my husbands 60th birthday so we want everything to be ok,i just want us to turn up have a great holiday and not have to worry about anything

I am visiting Sandals Grenada in July and chose the Butler option. I just came from a Palace Resort where there were time share members that received "special" treatment and us regular people could not compete without complaining to management. We did not understand this scenario when we booked. It was frustrating and annoying. It was not like we could pay into that program without joining their program. I chose the butler service so I could receive all of the best benefits Sandals offered. But we have been to resorts where everyone receives top service as people have mentioned, the cost was also a lot more than this vacation for that, even with paying for Butler Service, we are nowhere near that price this year. I also can't fly around the world to Tahiti again for that service. Therefore I chose this resort. I don't think you can fault Sandals for offering this amenity. As they stated, it is only 69/225 rooms.

Hi All,sorry to bring this thread back up but after reading some more reviews over the past month or so it looks like the butlers are still reserving the best spots and then the area is not being used.Come on Sandals management sort this out,if the areas are not being used all day,or even just for a few hours, then these areas MUST be given up for other people to have a chance to use.To be honest I don't just blame the butlers they are just doing their job,the people that are using these areas should have a bit more respect for others at the resort and if they leave or even don't use these areas then they should free them up,not just hold onto them, especially if they are off resort all day.I really hope this is sorted out for when we arrive,i am paying a lot of money and expect to sit where I want too,not be involved in a sunbed war.

P.S. read the latest review from Mike.

It'll all end in tears ;-). Condor airlines are starting a cheapish charter service to grenada from Frankfurt, the germans are coming, and we all know the jokes about them and sunbeds...

I rather liked one hotel i stayed at in Thailand where your sunbed was prepared by your mans man, with your name on a little label stapled to the corner of the towel. As everyone had one, there were no issues.

" Butlers reserving multiple places that are used for a very short time and vacant for most of the day is demeaning to all other guests... and IMO is quite discriminating."

I think this is the quote that you are referring to magsCoventry_england.

Whilst we have not stayed at SGLS yet (first trip May 2015) we have stayed at many Sandals on many different Islands with and without a butler, We also stayed at Sandals Royal Plantation when Peter Fraser was the manager there. Butler guests in my experience get no better treatment from the staff than non butler guests do. If butlers are allowed to reserve chairs for their gusts then that is no different to you actually reserving that chair yourself and the butler is doing it for you. Also remember that the butler team may have 6,7 or 8 rooms to deal with so reserving multiple places is going to happen but not for one couple but 6,7 or 8 couples not as suggested in the above quote. Also remember that the policy is to only reserve until 10.00 am.

Also as stated previously in this thread the Butler team only get a proportion of reservations at any of the restaurants at any one time therefore a non butler guest has the exact same chance of a reservation at a set time as the butler guest has. In my experience the best butler teams actually only do what you would do yourself but they do it for you before you even think of doing it yourself, if that makes sense.

By the way our best ever Sandals holiday did not include Butlers and we will not have butlers in Grenada next year and I can guarantee that will not detract from our enjoyment of this resort.

Any questions please ask, always happy to help if I can

Tom
