What kind of Jamaican Rum should I bring home?

Can you buy it at the airport and carry it onboard then?

Any recommendations for a brand?

What should we expect to pay?

Thanks all!

Appleton is the most popular... there are a variety of "vintages/types" to sample...

rum cream is lovely if you're a fan of baileys (it also comes in a variety of flavours, ripe banana is my favourite :) )

Enjoy

If you have a direct flight you have no problems with carry on. If you are changing planes then you will have to pick up your checked baggage, clear immigration & customs, place the alcohol in your checked bags and recheck them.

You will NOT be able to carry the alcohol on the plane on the second leg of the trip. REGARDLESS if it is duty free.

Perhaps a tour of the Appleton Rum Factory is in order. The tour includes tasting different bottles. Appleton has some fine quality types.

JB Rum and Wray & Nephew Rum are other Jamaican brands you'll find everywhere as well, but their quality would be lesser than some of the Appleton varieties.

What is the cost of Appleton Rum Factory tour? Also, it is cheaper to buy rum at the airport?

I found the best price in the grocery stores and picked up some great jerk seasoning mixes also. Appleton Reserve is my fav.

Alcohol is cheaper at the airport, coffee is not.

I second Appleton Reserve. If you need to pack it in your luggage, buy it before arriving at the airport( and bring your bubble wrap) . However, I always find best prices at airport. Agreed about coffee, coffee is NOT cheaper at the airport. And I second buying the rum cream. Hopefully you will be staying at a resort where you can sample some of the rums before buying.
