iam looking to book a resort where the beach has some wave activity. Two years ago i was in montego bay, the resort had a man made beach, very disapointed.

1. Re: beaches with big waves.

I have heard that the Dominican Republic can have some big waves during some seasons.

You could get some big waves in Jamaica during hurricane season if there is an upcoming storm.

Good luck with your research. Many of us love Jamaica for it's consistently nice ocean, and lack of " big waves".

If you want waves go to Cancun!! Waves can be so rough that its closed to swimming several days of the week. But Playa del Carmen is much safer.

Check out the Eastern part of Jamaica - Portland Parish to be exact. Long Bay is a well known surfing spot on the island. Very different from the west and south.

There are a few places that have waves, but not huge ones like you'll find in Hawaii or places like that. Not going to find that kind of activity around Jamaica (and it had nothing to do with the beaches).

Long Bay in Portland has consistent waves. Nothing huge but certainly body-surfable (in fact, surfable period). The area east of Kingston does too but there are few places to stay there.
