Suggestions for Honeymoon Destination & Resort

Fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for 2 weeks in the beginning of December 2013 and would like to do an all inclusive. Can anyone suggest good, romantic, preferably adults only resorts that we would enjoy. We are hoping to do one week in Jamaica and the other in Bahamas or another island (not sure which yet, still stuck on that)

We like a nice beach, warm/hot weather, excursions, snorkeling, clean resort, good food, a place that we can socialize with others but if we want some alone romantic time we have that option. We hear that Negril is known for its beautiful beaches but Ocho is closer to all the excursions?

Should we do an Excellence? Sandals? Couples? Riu? Iberostar? Secrets?

Budget is $8,000-$10,000 for the two weeks and transfer from one island to the to the other.

Please help, any suggestions will be great :-)

We are Sandals fans and absolutely loved Sandals Negril and Sandals Whitehouse... heading to SGR in Ocho this summer... that said, outside my Sandals preference, I'd choose Couples based on my research and reviews of the others you mentioned. If you did choose Sandles on both islands, you'd have 14 nights under your belts and a good chunk of change off your next trip.

Andrea

I recommend you look at Sandals & Couples in JA. We have stayed at all Sandals Resorts in JA except Sandals Villas and all Couples Resorts except Tower Isle. I would go with Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma if it fits in your budget, we loved it there it is beautiful and perfect for a honeymoon..

Yes, if beach is a top priority then stick to Negril. There are excursions available like YS Falls, Mayfield Falls, Black River Safari and Pelican Bar to name a few out of Negril.

Keep in mind each resort will offer a unique experience and what requirements you have will be important in your research to find the resort and area that will be the best for both of you. Need more details from you to make the proper recommendation, but here are a few to check out:

Couples Swept Away

Sandals Negril

Couples Negril

Sandals Royal Plantation

Couples San Souci

Sandals Grand Riviera

Couples Tower Isle

I agree with TravelFoodWine. If I was doing JA and Bahamas I would book everything through Sandals including all my air, love those SSG points & benefits! Sandals Negril & Sandals Emerald Bay. This option will go a bit over budget depending on room categories once all air is added on, but so worth it IME and perfect for a honeymoon. If Sandals sounds appealing to you be sure to contact a Preferred Certified Sandals Specialist in your community to check out prices and special promotions. You can also create a registry on the Sandals website and your wedding guests can gift excursions, spa treatments and more for your honeymoon.

Enjoy your research & enjoy Jamaica! Congratulations by the way!

PS~ Take RIU off your list, not a good choice for a honeymoon.

Another PS~Excellence Oyster Bay, as far as from what I have read, is at a standstill and has been for quite some time as far as any construction or any plans to follow through with their plans.

Beachlovergirl...Wow! Thank you so much for all the info... I had no idea I could book my entire trip through sandals and get a good deal. All the resorts you listed above I looked into and read the reviews on here. It sounds like they are all beautiful romantic places to stay at.

I think I narrowed it down to Nassau Royal Bahamian and Couples Tower Isle in Ocho. I love that Couples includes many excurions and water sports. We are 30 years old and felt that these two locations are quite romantic but still fun if we want to socialize with others. Although it's our honeymoon We don't want to be in a resort that's too quiet and secluded but i feel these two resorts offer both fun and quiet romantic time. I really want to visit Negril too but I think that will be on our next trip :-)

Thank you both for your advice!

Have a wonderful honeymoon, Andrea! If you find you come into a bit more for your budget, I agree with negrilbeachlove and think looking at the other Sandals in Bahamas (Emerald Bay) would be worth it. Either way, you're going to have a fantastic time. Be sure to sign up for Sandals Select rewards when you return so you can save some money on your 1st anniversary trip! :) Best to you!

I am not a fan of Sandals Royal Bahamanian or Nassau in general. That resort, in addition to Sandals MoBay and Sandals Grand Riviera, are the least favorite for me of the Sandals resorts and I would not stay at any of them.

I agree with Emeral Bay if you can afford it and then you can go to another of the Bahamian Islands for a week and spend time at a non AI resort to give you the best of both worlds.

You also should note that the Bahamas can already be a bit chilly by December. I personally would head further south, which is exactly what we do when we travel in winter to the islands as we want to be sure it will be warm enough for us to enjoy the water.

Check out Couples Barbados, opening in June. It is well located within walking distance to lots of local action, is a smaller resort and the beach at the location is beautiful. We are booked there for December. We had considered Jamaica (Couples Swept Away) but sometimes JA can also not be warm enough for us that time of year. We also considered Rendesvous in St. Lucia, and Galley Bay in Antigua, two other adult only AI resorts we really enjoy and prefer to Sandals.

Two weeks would be too much for us at an one AI or one chain. If I had two weeks I would either island hop or head to an island that offered a good contrast in places to stay and activities. You could go to Puerto Rico for a week and then head to any of the islands in the Southern Caribbean or BVI easily for a split trip.

St. Lucia is quite diverse and you could do a split stay there. For me, that would be a week at a place like Anse Chastenet, fabulous for a honeymoon, or Ladera followed by time at an AI. For me that would be Le Sport or Rendevous.

In Jamaica, I would do a split between beach and cliifs in Negril, choosing Rock House for the first part of the trip and then Couples Swept Away for the rest. If I were set on a Sandals I would likely choose Whitehouse over the others or perhaps Royal Plantation, though I personally would miss having a large beach suitable for long walks. In Ocho Rios, I would choose Jamaica Inn over all of the AI resorts there for something special and unique, followed by one of the Couples resorts.

Caviargirl - I appreciate your comments! What don't you like about Nassau or SRB? Why is Emerald Bay nicer than SRB? Did you find service better at one than the other? I will do some research with regards to temperature in Bahamas at that time of year, like you, we don't want to go somewhere that isn't warm enough. But coming from Canada, where there is still snow outside right now, we are happy with temperatures in the 80's.

I have received a lot of feedback and most people say not to stay at SRB... for the amount they charge it is not worth the visit and we can go elsewhere that is super romantic with better service. I will take another look into Emerald Bay as well.

ahhhh decisions decisions!
