which area to visit

We are headed back to Jamaica this winter and are flying into Montego Bay. We are thinking of branching out and are interested in finding a fun place to stay within about a 2 hour drive of MB. We are currently thinking of visiting Negril, Ocho Rios or possibly Falmouth for about 5 days or a week. We are looking for a place with lots of natural beauty on the beach, walkable area with restaurants, shops and bars, potential for fun activities (boat trips, horse riding, etc) and a safe area. We aren't much into the cruise ship scene - we'd enjoy more of a real town experience with some creature comforts. Any suggestions? Also, we'll be looking for a place to stay (1 Bedroom Rental or hotel) that's affordable and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Thanks!

All three will be within a 2 hr drive of MBJ.

"We are looking for a place with lots of natural beauty on the beach"

All three will offer this.

"restaurants, shops and bars, potential for fun activities (boat trips, horse riding, etc) and a safe area."

Try Ocho Rios or Negril.

"We aren't much into the cruise ship scene - we'd enjoy more of a real town experience with some creature comforts."

Negril is your only choice as Ocho Rios and Falmouth are both cruise ports.

Negril has everything you are looking for. We love it there. We stayed in Ocho Rios this past winter, and it was nice enough, but we're heading back to Negril next winter. For one thing, the beaches are much nicer, IMO. Also, it has a more relaxed vibe to it.

Ocho Rios is more of a town environment - Negril will offer more of a laid back beach environment - for easy inexpensive dining options, nightlife, and beach, I would choose Negril over Ocho Rios - Check out Negril Beach Club Condos, Beach House Villas, Rooms on the Beach, Legends, Grand Pineapple, Merrills - All of which would offer the type of lodging you seek

Love Ocho Rios but Negril ticks all of your boxes. We are in Negril right now and I wish you could see just how beautiful the beach looks right now from our balcony.
