Jamaica Forums - How does one become a destination expert

There is someone who I think should be a destination expert and they are not for Jamaica - can you nominate posters or how does that work? Or do you have to be asked. Cheers!

You start by nominating the person by contacting Tripadvisor. Just be aware of the implications it could have on your friend's posting style to be a DE based on the guidelines they are expected to follow.

I know of a couple of people that should be DE's, but when I've asked then about it they weren't interested.

I was asked by TA to be one years ago. And at times, it has gotten me into trouble.

I am willing to bet one of them is who I just asked :) And who declined.

I think its wonderful that this forum allows DE's. Very helpful. However I can also see how it may be restricting for those posters then in how they answer.

I don't feel restricted. All we really have to do is not insult people or break forum rules...not something i did before this anyhow.

As I recall TA sent me a message asking me to be one, can't recall when...a few years ago.

I really don't fell restricted either. I post just like I would if I wasn't a TA. Once in a while I'll get caught up in some of the heated debates, but it's all good.

And I received a message for TA as well asking if I wanted to be a DE.

Agreed. It just takes up time and I do get quite a few PMs as well.

I was contacted by TA about one destination initially - and two more after that - and they did not mention anyone nominating me.

Do people in the travel industry get special attention by Tripadvisor? I know of at least two who are Destination Experts...not necessarily on the Jamaica forum. :)

How would they know? There is no interview process or application.
