I am from Kelowna, British Columbia, CANADA. I have heard a lot of horror stories about people visiting Jamaica. I was in Jamaica from Dec.28/13 to Jan.4/14. I stayed in Ocho Rios at a villa at Sandals resort. It was F'n amazing. I am blessed to have gone there. I did not stay on the resort my whole trip. My husband and I walked off the resort to look around a few times. Another time some of our other travelling companions and I took a tAxi to the craft market. I actually wanted to go to the real stores where people from Jamaica actually do shop but the taxi had a specific spot at the craft market he thought we would like(kickbacks....making sure friends get the tourist business..hustling... ect I'm sure..lol...but everyone needs to eat right?) anyways it was just as I expected...I loved it. My companions were freaked out .. Scared..ect. They just were not used to strangers lol. But it seemed like...how else would the shopowners make anything without being a little aggressive ..there's like 50 stall style shops and there is so much competion. I talked to a spa lady at the resort named Camille(her pet name for work). She was amazing and very honest. I know Jamaica can be a very dangerous place...specially for those who have lived nice sheltered lives. It is true though anywhere in the word Can be dangerous. I saw a lot of tourist on the resort who were stuck up..disrespectful...thought they were better than others. We'll if they have that attitude as tourists anywhere you're not going to be liked much. So I'm not in love with Jamaica because I've been given an illusion from a resort but for many other real reasons. I am sad at all the country goes through. I was also amazed at how physically beautiful the people are. I'm sure everyone was super nice cause it's there job lol........I don't know if anyone actually reads this but Makiko, Loretta ..Camille...Patrick...Deshane...Kevaun..and Curtis Crazy(thank goodness for him ...(lifesaver within 30 seconds of walkin in my villa room..he would know why lololo) )at the sandals were awesome..they work very hard and I was genuinely lucky to hav met them. Yeah mon. I LOVE JAMAICA.. Maybe one day I will be blessed ,lucky,or wealthy enough to go back there. It's my first choice now.
