Steel drum player for wedding

We don't want a full band, but just a single steel drum player. While vacationing in the Cayman Islands we had a gypsy accompanied with music playing the steel drum at a dinner party. We are having a small wedding and would like the sound of a steel drum, but feel a full band would be to much. I can't find anything on internet but full bands. Anyone know anything that might be helpful???

Thanks

steel drum is not a traditional instrument for jamaica

having said that i would suggest that you contact Hampton School in Malvern St. Elizabeth as they have a steel band or bands there

they sound great as i hear them practice often

maybe they can suggest one member who could play for your wedding

one love

where in Jamaica will you be? In Negril, there's a small steel band, "Greenie and Steel"; they play every week at Canoe Bar, one of the local restaurants. I think it's two pan players plus a few other instruments - you might be able to contract one of the panmen to play for you... (of course only if that's the area you will be in.)

Where are you getting married. If it is at one of the many resorts many of them have wedding coordinators that should be able to help with that. I would start there.

Steel pans are quite common in Ja. Speak with the hotel & they should be able to make the arrangements for you. We have had functions at hotels & they arrange with groups that work with them to come in & provide steel pan music.
