Just back- Holiday Inn Montego Bay

First time in Jamaica and first time in AI. Absolutely loved it!! Check in was quick and efficient. Stayed in building 4 - a bit run down, but extremely clean- flat screen tv., hot water- what more could I ask for when I was hardly in the room. I am not too picky as long as the room is clean!!!!! Housekeeping did a wonderful job! Towels were always plentiful!

When people say that it is a "walk to dinner from certain buildings"...I have to tell you that it is approx. a 2 minute walk(if that) along an ocean view sidewalk to get to the buffet. I personally didn't mind it at all. I would think the only people who would have a problem with that walk would be someone with a disability. Even from the further buildings- tack on another minute or two.

The staff- all staff were friendly, helpful, hospitable. I did not meet one person without a smile on their face and believe me, they are working long and hard hours to please each guest. Re: safety, it was not even an issue once I checked in and I was contemplating the whole safety issue before my trip. The hotel grounds are very secure, and the guests and staff were very friendly and very easy to talk to and make aquaintances.

The buffet was very good. I ate the breakfast and dinner buffet each night. Tues. and Fri. nites the buffet is a "beach party" on the beach with entertainment. The food is a bit repeated, but there is always something new added. I enjoyed it. The jerk hut (jerk chicken and pork) is open 12 pm - 6 pm. Delicious! There is also a hamburg, fish sandwich, grilled cheese and french frie station that is open from 11 a.m. - ? and then closes for a while and then opens up again around 10 pm.

There is enough food to make anyone content.

The weather was great while I was there. Sunny each day. Rained one evening about 10 pm.

The shuttle to Margaritaville(sp) runs every nite and is FREE. It leaves the hotel at 9, 10 and 11 pm. and picks up at Margaritaville at 12, 1 and 2 a.m.

I had a wonderful stay and will definently be back to Jamaica.

I did go on a tour to Dunn's River from the hotel for a 1/2 day and that was $52. I did not climb the falls, but enjoyed it just the same. Loved the bus ride and just seeing the falls.

I hope this helps someone with questions re. Holiday Inn. Ask away, if I can answer anything else.

Did you eat at any of the restaurants? Did they require long pants for men?

We also just got back, and yes you will need long pants for the sorrento restaurant for sure. Probably the Tratorria too. We also we very pleased with our stay, and am not sure what the fuss is about in some of the reviews!

I did not eat at any of the restaurants, but all I heard were that they were great. You must reserve them well in advance as they seemed to book up about 1 day in advance. (from what I over-heard).

Is there any type of nightly entertainment or did you take advantage of the shuttle into town? And since we didn't travel to jamaica before is it safe to go into town in the nights?

Were the staff excepting tips? I like to tip while I am staying at an AI but have read that they are very strict at this resort about staff receiving tips.

The night shuttle to Margaritaville (sp) drops you right off at the door to the club. I am sure you could walk to other clubs from there that are in the area, but I did not. That club had alot of security right out in front and I would say was very secure!! Regarding the rest of the area...not quite sure as I did not go walking around the area.

I did not have a mini-fridge etc. in my room, but some rooms may have. By the way, make sure you sign up on the Holiday Inn site for a Priority Club member (free to join)before you go as you do get a few perks - a small fruit plate delivered to your room, your bed turned down nightly, and if they have it, a room upgrade. You will also get a $5 card for use in the casino if you spend $5. The casino is small. There is also a workout room on premises, but, I did not even go there to check it out.

There was entertainment at the hotel all afternoon- stuff for the kids (kids dancing events and little shows, bingo, etc.). There were also some things going on at nite, but besides the Tues. and Fri. nite beach party, I did not pay much attention. There is a big board outside the big pool that lists daily activities for the week that if you are interested you should check out once you check in. I did notice some music show going on which may have been on a Wed. nite that looked pretty good for families- adults and kids.

By the way...for those who are arriving late....the hamburg, fish, cheeseburger etc. station opens at 10 pm. and may be open till as late as 1 a.m.. There is also an adult bar upstairs and I believe that is open till 2 or 3 a.m. My times may be off an hour or so, but it is open pretty late.

Hope this helps. Any other questions...I will try to answer.
