First visit in July with my 12yr old daughter

Hi everyone,

I booked a 6 night stay at the Royal Decameron MoBay for the first week of July. It will be a trip for my 12yr old (going on 17yrs I sometimes think) and I. After looking through many hotels on travel sites, she chose this one because it's close to the airport, and the Hip Strip. She read that there's a lot of shops on the Hip Strip and wants to check it out while there. I don't drive so we'll be walking a lot. My question is, other than staying at the hotel every night for entertainment or fun, is there anywhere we can go nearby that she'd be able to? I mean because it sounds like there's a lot of night clubs in the area, and she's a minor. Sorry for the rambling. :)

Thank you,

Tanya

Walking is best anyhow. Driving isn't recommended.

There really isn't anything to do in the area at night. Most of the things are geared towards adults. What kinds of things are you thinking about? I would recommend going out and about during the day, but not so much during the night. You might walk down by Margaritaville and get some chicken (really good) but as far as things to do, there really isn't a whole lot at night.

And just an fyi. RDMB can be hit and miss as far as other kids. There may be some, or she may be the only one that week. The entertainment staff will make sure she (and your self) has a good time regardless.

Thank you very much.

Staying at the hotel wasn't a problem, just thought there may be something else.

Yeah, I had read that it's usually an older crowd at that hotel. I told her she could've picked one with a water park or something, but she wanted this one. She really likes shopping. LOL

She also seems interested in the Rose Hall Great House tour. She likes all that history stuff, as do I.

The Rose Hall is a very good tour. Very informative.

If you like shopping and are felling adventurous, go into the craft market across the street from the resort. It can be a bit intimidating at first, but overall, they are great people back there. Go back, spend some time and look around (don't be afraid to stand your ground if you don't feel like looking or are feeling pressured though). It can be a good shopping experience and you might find something you like.

A few other things you both would enjoy are: Martha Brae river rafting where you go down a bamboo raft on the river!! GListening Waters...where the water illuminates and you go out in the night (after sunset) on a boat and you can go in the water and watch it light up around you!! The guide also provides history of the area and waters. The Rockland bird sanctuary is cool...hummingbirds feed from your hand!

In Mobay she could go early to Margerittaville where there is music and a water slide and the casino would allow her in (early eve) it would be fun!

PEACE!

Anod mentioned Margaritaville. I would go during the day. It is more Jimmy Buffet by day and adult themed night club by night.

You can take her to The Coral Cliffs Lounge, It is right across the street from the Margaritaville...they have a very professional reggae band that plays there from Thursday nights through to Sunday nights...even babies go there. If she likes to sing, they will even allow her to take the stage...by the way, they have kareokee on Monday nights.

Hello,

Lots of things to do, but with 6 nights it kind of hard! May I suggest going to Negril for the day, Mountain Valley Rafting (ask for Kil-ar). Hire a driver/taxi (Zipp) and just go! If you use Zipp, please tell him "Hi" for me (Gil).

Take it nice and easy,

grac

just seen you'r post you will both love it. I went 3 years agp with my partner and again the year asfter with my 14 year old niece (also planning to get married there later this year) we stayed in the runaway bay hotel same chain.

Personally i felt very safe both times during the day she would love to climb duns river falls but i wouldn't feel safe to go out at night.

I would also hire a personal driver that way you can leave when yo want stay as long as you like he also took us to a few local towns as we were with a jamican man no one bothered us at all. i found the driver after advice on here and if you'r interested ill pass on his details i talk to him on fb ever now and then.
