Butler service

Going to sandals mont. bay in July.I have two questions. What is the norm for tipping the butlers. Also do you do it at the end, after each service or daily?Second,I read the "what the butlers do" on the website, but what else do they do?I have read many blogs about how well their butler treated them, but no specifics.Any stories on what to look forward to?Any suggestions on some special or fun things to ask for?

We have been to sgr and Src with butlers. We will be at smb this July 9-16.

What all does the butler do:

1. After you book you will fill out an on line form for prfs. Put down what you like to drink in your room, and add which restaurants you want to eat at in the same box. They will have your reservations ready for you and can make changes.

3. They will bring breakfast to your room and set up on your balcony. Order what you want how you want it.

4. They will unpack and pack.

5. They will reserve a place on the beach or pool with a cooler of drinks. You may have to ask, but they will do it.

6. They will get things from your room and bring them to you. You will have a phone. Use it.

7. They will pick you up for dinner and seat you at a prefered table.

8. They will help you plan your day and make spa, trip, and other reservations for you.

9. They will take you to the parties that are available for you. 10. They will have a bubble bath ready when you come back to the room. Not every night, but they leave the bubbles so you can make your own.

11. They will serve you a dinner in your room with bubbly on your balcony. You can order mix and match from any restaurant .

12. They will love getting to know you, so tell them about yourselves and ask about them.

13. They will deserve a tip. $100-150 at the end of the stay. You can put it on your card or give cash in a nice card.

14. They will make sure your room bar is filled with what you really want.

Tip is at the end of your stay either by card at the front desk or in cash. Each will deserve at least 100 and probably more. Have a great trip.

The average suggested tip is $20 per day per butler, and you will have two butlers - one during the day, and the other coming on late afternoon into the evening. The majority of people tip at the end of their stay. You are welcome to adjust your tip up or down as you see fits the service that each butler has given you. Many people will bring a thank you card and place the cash in it to give to the butler(s). Butlers and spa staff are the only employees allowed to receive tips. (All other employees receive a piece of your paid stay in their pay.)

You can have your butlers pack and unpack for you. They will reserve you seats at the pool or beach, with a cooler containing your requested beverage(s). They will make your dinner reservations for you, and then come and escort you to the restaurant. Usually they can obtain the choicest seats in a restaurant. They will usually bring you an afternoon snack and drink. Surprise bubble baths decorated with flower petals and candles. Towel art on your bed.

Add two more to the list: They are also your personal “front desk” contact with the resort for anything that may arise. Call them first. Most live nearby and can help with off-resort information and recommendations.

On the Packing part of the service, I'm not sure they do this anymore. Something to do with Liability. They ask at the airport if anyone other than yourself packed your luggage. Tell the truth, and you most likely will be pulled for a complete search (imo). Or if they would find something illegal in your luggage, what's to stop someone from saying, oh~it must have been the Butler at Sandals who put that there.

Now I'm not 100% certain, but I think if you ask them to pack up for you, they probably will say sorry, they can not provide that service any longer.

The sandals website says the Butler will assist in Folding your clothes for packing, not doing the actual packing.

Thanks Tiffany,You are probably right. It would be safer packing your own luggage. After thinking about that,if the butler takes your luggage and you don't see it until you get to the airport,is that really leaving us open to a problem?

Hmmm.

we had a private car (the Sandals car)last time so our luggage walked with us from the room to the car. previous years we put the luggage outside the door of the room and someone collected it and brought it up for shuttle loading.

I think as long as you packed it, and Sandals has it under guard, so to speak, you are good. They have a locked room where the luggage is stored prior to shuttle loading if you have to check out at 11am and your shuttle to the airport is later ...

Ronnie: A bit of a different perspective for you...as seavale mentioned, your Butler should be your 'go to' person for any problems/issues that would normally tempt you to call the front desk. Last trip, we discovered our in room iron wasn't working...we mentioned it to our Butler and a replacement was provided promptly. They will run interference for you with the resort staff required for remediation. The other thing they do is more subtle. They are good at learning your likes/dislikes/preferences etc. as they begin interacting with you during your stay. As such, they will start doing either big or little things in anticipation that you will pleased. We call it accentuating the positive. For example, our Butlers know that my wife is big on flowers...so they are always providing her with flowers in one form or another. It might be an arrangement left in the room...a flower to put in her hair that matches her bikini's color scheme whilst we lay on the beach. These kinds of things. We've been working with Hughill and Ellis at Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort and Private Island for years now. Must be up over 45 nights so far...both can now finish our sentences for us and always come up with new things to keep us happy. They are masters at this.
