Drive time from Montego Bay to Kingston is about 4 hr one way depending on road conditions. Flight time is about 40 min. one way. See the following

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g147309-c140533/Jamai…

Renting a car in Jamaica is not recommended if you have never been there before.

The most practical way for a day trip to Kingston is to hire a car and driver. The rental agent for your villa can arrange one for you. Plan on being gone 12 hr. or more.

Hi

Thanks for the details. We do have a driver and vehicle with the Villa so was planning to use them if we drive.

I think flying maybe a better option as its a long trip.

It is the first time visiting Jamaica so thank you.

If you are thinking of flying, do you want to fly charter or scheduled air? If charter then you will have no problem as they fly when you want to. If you are thinking of scheduled flights then remember that the number of flights between KIN and MBJ is very limited (as in some days there are zero scheduled flights in one direction or the other).

and I'd check to see if charters will depart after dark, they do not fly out of KIN but rather TIN which is a smaller airport about 20 minutes W of KIN, may not be equipped to service traffic to/from after dusk.

If you have a driver available, drive. You'll see some great scenery while traveling the island.

If you fly, you are looking at charter air and a driver when you arrive. Not really worth the expense for a one day trip to Kingston. Use the driver you have available.

edit, the airport isn't TIN, it's KTP (Tinsing Pen)

You can fly into or out of Tinson Pen after dark as the runway is lit. However, last scheduled flight from Mo Bay arrives at 6.30pm Monday to Friday. Last flight into Mo Bay arrives at 5.30pm.

Note for interest: Ian Fleming (formerly Boscobel) has lights for night flights, Ken Jones at Port Antonio doesn't.
