All inclusive versus house rental???

A group of 4 women 40+ booking a vacation to Jamaica for April 2013 and can't decide whether to book a house and enjoy the privacy that it brings or an all inclusive where everything is done for you....hmmm anyone with any thoughts, maybe someone who has done both???

I have done both and would choose a villa over an AI. Villas can be pretty laid back and won't have the nightlife and party atmosphere some seek.

Check out Silver Sands Villas in Duncan's Bay. Very nice villas and a great beach.

There are also some all inclusive villas out there as well. Best of both worlds, privacy of a villa but you still have your meals and drinks included in a one set price with a cook, houseman and cleaning person dedicated to you. Many of the villas come with the option of adding the all inclusive package on. (Moondance Villas in Negril comes to mind)

For something extra special check out Bluefields Bay Villas for an all inclusive villa experience. Drill down to my review it is quite detailed.

I think it depends what your group likes. If you are wanting privacy and peace and quiet, then probably a villa. If you are looking to have some fun, let loose a bit and enjoy other people and but still find some peace and quiet when you want it, then an AI.

I have done both and both have advantages and disadvantages. Almost all villas have staff that will cook, clean, and shop for you. You set the menu and when you want to eat and the staff take care of the rest. If you want lobster every night you can have it (in season). You won't have a full bar unless you buy all the ingredients. If you only drink wine, beer and maybe a few simple mixed drinks that's okay, but complex drinks will be expensive. There isn't entertainment provided and activities are limited. The AI resorts you have activities, entertainment and full bar but don't get the level of service as a villa
