Sunspree Holiday inn-18 & 16 sons...bad hotel choice?

I have 2 sons, 18 & 16, and 2 daughters, 10 & 8. Trying to plan a fun getaway before my eldest goes off to college, I booked Sunspree Holiday Inn without investigating. Travel agent said hotel is getting better and better and for the $ you will be fine. I'm totally aware it is only a 3 star and am not expecting much, but after reading some of the reviews, I am very nervous. Sounds like the girls will be fine, but I don't thing the boys will have anything to do. No disco or anything on property for older kids! I'm worried they will want to take hotel shuttle to Margaritaville at night. Is that safe? Should I see if I can switch? Sunset Ocho Rios was same price. I hear Sunset Montego Bay is ok, but haven't heard anything about Ocho Rios. Does anyone have any advice? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Since you booked I wouldn't worry. I would plan some excursions and days off the resort. You can go to Mobay even for a change of beach. I like Aqua Sol but there is also Doc Cave-both have things to do and a nice beach. Aqua Sol has a bumber car and game room as well-both have jet skis and glass bottom boats.

Take a day trip into Falmouth. Do the Martha Brae river rafting...then dinner and then at dark do the Glistening waters. Both great for all ages a lot of fun!

Another day you can do Dunns River Falls since it's closed to you. Maybe the older kids can take a trip to Bob Marley Nine Mile with a group.

They would also be safe going to Margaritaville on the shuttle with roundtrip transp. I would clearly let them know not to walk off with strangers at night-as I;m sure they wouldn;t where you live. There is also a Casino accross the street. If you are comfortable with them going then they will be fine. Don;t get caught up if you start hearing fearful responces. Do what YOU are comfortable with as they are your children. It is my understanding that althought Sunspree doesn;t have a disco they do have fun events at night. If you hotel offers a shuttle to the Hip Strip they will be fine.

A few nights out/ a few family excursions and some chill time will make everyone happy!

PEACE!

Thank you so much for your response. It was so helpful and you seem so knowledgeable of the area. I actually just got back from Jamaica in Dec for a long weekend with girlfriends celebrating 50 years! We stayed at Braco Beach Village for yet another good deal. The reviews were horrid and we had a very nice time. We went to Negril and enjoyed it, but the trip was very long and I'm thinking might be too long for my gang. I noticed that you didn't mention it. Would you bother taking them there? The expense with the tour company and time in the car might not be worth it, especially if these other beaches you mention are nice. My kids like waves and there are certainly no waves. I'm so happy to hear you think they will be save. They are very independent and I would normally give them freedom to explore because they are responsible and a bit older looking than they are. I just wasnt sure if they could go alone and I'm glad you think it would be safe. Your review was a big help. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great night. Stacey

From HI SS I think Negril is only about 1.5 hours away. Been to Jamaica 13 times and I'm certain the boys will like Dr's Cove and also Dunns River Falls. We are booked at the same resort for April 14th. Don't worry about some of the negative comments because the positive remarks out weigh the negatives. I'm more than certain your entire family will have a blast.

Yea! If you have been there 13 times, then you know. The price is wonderful because my girls are free so it's our only way. Great chatting with you and hope to share a cocktail. We are in deep freeze in CT so can't wait for Jamaica!!!!!!!!!!!!
