Interesting restaurants in Montego bay?

Hello.

Are there any interesting restaurants in montego bay? Hopefully on right on the beach? I'm looking for a simple meal near a beautiful beach like Doctor's Cave.

Thank you.

I'm curious, as the prices are in Jamaican dollars, how we would pay if we didn't have any of the local currency. Would they accept US$ and if so, would they tell us what the conversion rate would be? Or should I just pay with Visa or something?

What a nice-looking restaurant!

What do you recommend?

"how we would pay if we didn't have any of the local currency. Would they accept US$"

In Montego Bay at a tourist place, probably yes.

"would they tell us what the conversion rate would be?"

Maybe. Even if they do tell you it probably will not be in your favor.

"Or should I just pay with Visa or something?"

Some places take credit cards and other work only on the cash basis, you need to ask. Remember, many, but not all, credit cards add a 3% charge for using your card in a foreign country. I am not sure what you mean by "something". If you mean credit and debit cards plan to stay with Visa and MasterCard even at places that take credit cards. Amex, Discover, etc. are seldom accepted except at the highest priced shops and large hotels or hotel chains.

If you are looking for something not quite as fancy for lunch or something like that, check out the Dead End Bar. It's fun little place where you can grab a bite to eat and watch the planes land at the airport. Its within walking distance from Doctors Cave Beach.

So it looks like the best way to pay for meals would be with Jamaican $. Where is the best place to get them? Airport or hotel?

Will the hotel post the daily exchange rate? We will be at the Hilton.

For where to change (and not change) money see the following

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g147309-s601/Jamaica:…

"Airport or hotel?"

There are much better choices than either of these two.

"it looks like the best way to pay for meals would be with Jamaican $."

Yes, if the prices on the menu are listed in Jamaican dollars.

Agree. If the prices are in Jamaican, pay in Jamaican. Establishments are free to set their own exchange rates, so they usually do so in their favor. Go off the resort and find a Cambio. They will give you the best exchange rate.

houseboat grill is on a real boat by the pier...cool spot good food; would need a taxi. The Pork Pit is a Mobay staple-jerk chicken or pork, fish, shrimp and sides-nothing else; known for their jerk-you can walk from Doc Cave. MArgeritts next to Margerittaville has outdoor seating on the water and good food (higest prices of all listed) but amazing seafood and larger menue. The Chinese food place on the hill has great food as well!!!

Honestly you can;t go wrong eating in Jamaica!

PEACE!

Scotchies has delicious food! Many people we've asked liked Scotchies over Pork Pit.

We too are looking for something different this time on our visit next week but for Jerk food we perfer The Pork Pit. Crazy as it sounds, I'd like to know more about that Chinese restaurant on the hill that bushgirl spoke of.
