Suggestions for us first timers?

Hi, We are going to Ocho Rios Mar 11-18/2011.. First time to jamaica and really looking forward to it. Passed up Cuba after comparing the reviews. We will be at the Bahia .

Can anyone give us info on fun things to do outside the resort? I know about the Dunn River, any good palces for live music? fun places, shopping?

My husband is a diver , so any advice on that would be great as well!

Thanks so much!

Make sure you get to Luminous Lagoon/Glistening Waters by Farmouth, we all really enjoyed it. Stay as far away of a full moon as you can and a sunny day will improve the illumination that night.

They have music at the jerk centre in runaway bay opposite the green grotto caves on some saturday nights as do Flavours. Both are great nights out. Go with some other people. Ask the staff they will know of things going on locally. In ocho rios you have margaritaville which has good night life as well but prices of drinks are expensive there. Certain nights they do differnet things. Saturday is ladies night and you get in free/or reduced rate. Weds is pool party night and if you wear your swim wear you get in for a discount. They have a pool there with a slide if you fancied it..

Priory beach party every sunday night. live music on the beach. Dj themed but good fun also. Lots of locals venture here

Close to Dunns river falls is mystic mountain and dolphin cove.

Firefly has fantastic views of ocho rios if you like scenic places and historic places, there is history surrounding the place.

There is a place in runaway bay where you can do horse riding and go into the sea.

Nine mile if your fan of bob marley.

Luminous lagoon as mentioned

Shopping you have ocho rios which is a busy tourist area. If you wnat more of a local feel check out browns town or st anns bay.

To get to places hire a private driver and that way you can see more and have more time at places you decide to venture to.

Go for a bike tour from the hotel it will be a good way of seeing the surrounding area

Nine Mile on the Zion bus is a must if you love Bob. We've been twice and it was the highlight of our trips.

Lots of great ideas I will just add a few:

Reggae Beach : They have made this more touristy since my last visit but the beach is gorgeous. Cliffs on both sides nestle this large cove of gorgeous blue water and near white sands.

Blue Hole- There are a couple on the White river, and they make some of the ocean look not so blue. Freshwater and blue as the sky!!

Also ask around but for the past couple of years on fridays's the locals take over the Island Village shopping plaza and throw a nice party late into the hours. There are alwasy parties goign on just have to ask around and read the telephone poles ';0)... Oh the backs of cars are a goood information site as well

No need to be scared... The blue hole/ a blue hole, is where the river has carved out of the limestone a pool that fills over time and creates a blue looking hole as many are very deep. It is gorgeous freashwater and a experiecne to have as the water is prettier than many of the waters at the beaches and its fresh! Reggae Beach no tour needed you can just grab a cab but to do a few of these together in an economical way I would suggest www.ochoriosjamaicatours.com Peat Taylor Tours is a great family company that can take care of all your needs.

Jenny, which tour did you book your Luminous Lagoon with? We just booked SJG for April 5th - 12th. Now we are trying to pick some day trips to do while we are there. Thanks
