Couples vs Sandals

We are longing to return to Jamaica after a recent visit to Sandals Royal Plantation. TA places Couples Sans Souci higher on their Ocho Rios hotel list.

Advice is welcomed on whether CSS is similar to the RP or the Sandals Grande next door.

RP, although a little quiet, was superb, but I feel a better deal may be had at CSS as butlers are not important to us.

Also, are any of the other Jamaican Couples resorts similar to the RP, only slightly more lively.

Thank you,

BW9

Don't want to through a spanner in the works but have you thought of St Lucia?

Stay at one play at three and all 3 are different, we stayed at Halcyon in 2009 and although not as nice as RP, having only 169 rooms it was almost as quiet but definately more lively with 2 decent sized pools with bars and the staff were very nice. The Grande and Regency had some excellant restaraunts with Le Toc being almost as good as Le papillon, The Pier was also very good.

Any questions just ask

Good Luck

Regards

Tom

Hi again Tom,

I was looking at CCS because it seemed to offer a similar service to the RP but a grand and a bit less and is higher on TA advisors list.

We looked at the Sandals in St Lucia last year but decided on East Winds Inn, superb, but too quiet. They also seemed to come out a grand more than their Jamacian sisters. Club/Upper flights seem to be far more expensive to St Lucia.

Our ideal holiday would be the RP without the butlers, aimed at forty something with upbeat entertainment, but not as wild as say, SGR.

If there is anywhere else that may fit the bill, please let me know,

Thanks again Tom.

The individual attention regarding service at the RP is hard to beat. Also the food quality is extremely high & not as such elsewhere. However CSS is a nice property & I recommend it. But it's no RP...

I imagine you're Sandals Select members. So hard to look at other properties with the great discounts from our points. Over the years I've often read of the loyalty to resorts. If people went to Couples Resorts on their first trip they seem to defend Couples. If they go to Sandals, or Riu you hear the same thing. I am a Sandals fan and have not strayed from this chain as I have been treated weel with the discounts and upgrades.

With all this said, I could not answer you question. Sorry

Some of us are converts. I stayed at Sandals for years and then discovered Couples. For a while I went to both and then Sandals started changing a lot, adding butler and concierge categories and creating numerous categories to support their new model. Couples has stayed pretty much the same since the late 80s. Now we go to Couples when we want an adults only beachfront AI in Jamaica as it is a better overall fit for us.

One day we may try RP. My hesitation is that it has become Sandalized and I wish I had stayed there prior to the change to really experience it as it was before.

To the OP, CSS is a lovely resort. I am not sure it will be any livelier than RP and I do not think the service levels and amenities will be the same. But I suspect that if you know that going on you would enjoy the resort, as long as your expectations are realistic.

Royal Plantation is a truly exceptional, superior resort.

I think you still have the priveledges to visit SGOR while staying at RP so that might be the 'compromise' for you....

I don't suggest you base anything on the trip advisor ratings. They are far too easily manipulated and because of the way they're calculated they are not at all a 'quality' rating, simply a 'popularity' rating.

Blessings and respect to you.

Choosing a vacation spot is such a personal choice. Without knowing each poster personally it is so hard to recommend one place over another.

Royal Plantation I am sure is an excellent resort. As to the value only you can decide if that value is there for you.

I can tell you from personal experience that the Couples Resorts are all about quality, personal treatment for every person regardless of Butlers, Concierge or standard rooms. Each Couples resort has award winning chef's on staff, award winning bartenders and exceptional staff overall.

In the August 2011 Issue of Travel & Leisure Magazine World's BEST Awards, all 4 Couple Resorts were ranked in the top 10 for the Bermuda, Bahama & Caribbean. Couples Tower Island was ranked #3 Worldwide as best SPA resort.

The only other property in Jamaica to make the top 100 was The Rockhouse coming in at 19.

Back in January 2011 Sandals Whitehouse did make it into the top 10 for Regional.

Once again, only YOU can decide which resort is best for you!

Happy research! That is 1/2 the fun!!

Bright Blessings

I just posted on another thread and relaized as I typed that altough CSS may appear sleepy and quiet by day, (except by the main pool), there are a few things going on at night. There's the beach party one night, a gala another, and inbetween you can choose to partake in the fun at the Balloon bar patio (entertainment, bands, dancing, casino night) or sneak off and relax in a hidden hot tub or take your drink and check out the views from the spa huts on the cliffside (3 sided so not locked at night)

I can't speak for SRP, but CSS is very romantic and lush, with great food, service... and those views!

Hi all and thank you for your advice.

I now know their is a cheaper alternative similar to the RP, which seems a little more lively in the evenings.

Cheers,

No there isn't.

The RP's food is far more superior. The RP individual attention regarding service is as superior as it can get in JA.

No couples resort can compare with this particular resort
