You could sponsor a deaf child that of necessity, has to go to a boarding for the specialised teaching. There are 3 campuses, Montego Bay, Kingston, and one centrally located near Mandeville. The school is entirely funded by parents (many are poor) and charitable contributions. No government money is available.

I think that you should try to sponsor more children in Montego Bay and more rural area. Kingston and Mandeville get too much overseas support and it's not fair! There are kids who don't even have shoes as a norm. Montego Bay needs more support.

Like I say direct school contact and not too personal individual service. Forget the Tourist Board. If they meant anything to anybody the place wouldn't look like a dump. They're too biased.

HERE IS A GREAT CHARITY:

MUSTARD SEED COMMUNITIES

And you can pick your choice of location. I recommend St. James (Montego Bay)

Absolute rubbish JB. There is no such thing as too much overseas support.

The economic climate, particularly in the US, has hit schools that depend entirely on charity very hard.

Right now at the school for deaf near Mandeville, three classrooms are closed and several specialised teachers for the deaf have been made redundant. The budget is so tight at the moment that it is a struggle to give the children adequate meals. Unlike most other schools in Jamaica, all schools for the deaf receive no funding from the government!

Yes, and I understand that. My point is that more schools in other places should get funding.

There needs to be equal distribution of everything.. not just for Kingston.

There tends to a lot of focus on Kingston, in particular, which lives high on the hog, and I know that Mandeville area gets a lot of support too.

I know there are a lot of kids everywhere that need help. Some still have to go carry water and have no electricity. On the days when school were in session I saw them working in the hot sun for and with their parents just to make a few dollars.

So I'm well aware of the need. And you don't have to tell me what the gov't doesn't fund because all you have to do is walk and;/or drive about and you can clearly see what the govt doesn't do.

Kingston is too greedy!!
