Sandals Grande Riviera Orientation

Hello! I will be at SGR in about 12 days YAY! We arrive on a Saturday evening and are wondering about orientation. I've been to Sandals Whitehouse and found the orientation helpful. Can anyone let me know if it is necessary for the orientation at SGR or is possible to figure things out on our own? Is an orientation done everyday? How long does an orientation take? Thanks for any info/advice! I'm really looking forward to my trip!

They do the orientation at least once a day --- possibly twice. We have never done it --- but that's just us, we like to find things on our own. But, being that it is such a large resort and it is on 2 sides of the main road you might want to do it so you don't miss anything. We have gone 11 times and we pretty much know where everything is. I do hear of people who stay on one side of the resort and never venture to the other side --- make sure you check out both sides. We always stay on the hillside but go over to the beach side every day.

I also answered on your other thread, but there signs on the Riviera side, and all the bars and restaurants are in the Great House on the Manor side. We like walking around and finding things on our own, but I think you'll be fine if you don't do orientation.

Awesome thanks for the info! I'd rather be on the beach or at the pool or doing whatever else rather than take do the orientation so that's great to know!

Be sure to walk around, there is a lot to see and find at this resort. If you are staying on the manor side, be sure to look for the hot tub patios hidden amongst the villas.

It is a gigantic resort and I suppose a first-timer orientation wouldn't hurt. Definately you want to check out both sides of the highway, there is lots to see and do on both sides.

I've been to SGR 6 times, and even with two-week stays, I'm always discovering something new, so I would advise you to do orientation for several reasons.

#1 You're a first-timer, and it would be nice for you to have a "formal" introduction to the resort because it is huge and spread out. There are lots of "secret" nooks and crannies that hold "treasures" like hammocks and pools.

#2 & #3 Orientation doesn't last long and is offered twice a day, so it won't take up much time, and you can do it at 10 am or 5 pm (the times may change, so check). It's very casual, so you can wear your swim suit cover up and carry your oversized travel mug of your favorite beverage. :-)

#4 Orientation is led by a Play Maker, and they're great people to meet because they know everything going on. They'll show you around AND tell you all about upcoming events, classes, on site tours, etc. Kitchen or Garden Tour? Make a tie dye t-shirt or a Caribbean dish? Staff versus guest beach volleyball at 4 pm. I'm in! Mixology class with the best cocktail winning a spa credit? Nice!

#5 Orientation attendance will give you points, and when you collect enough activity points (see #4), you get prizes like leather sandals necklaces, a bottle of rum, etc.

#6 New things are always happening on property (new hires, new fun things to do, new menus, upcoming changes to the resort), and you might be the first to hear about something because you attended orientation.

Learn a lot. Have some fun. Enjoy your vacation!
