Favorite Rum Drinks?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend their favorite rum drinks -- especially ones that are Jamaican in origin? And do you have a good recipe? We'll be mixing many of our own, and don't want to suffer from lack of a bartender.

Also, I've heard of Rum Cream and a liquer made from Rum. What are these?

Thanks,

Temple

Rum cream is like Bailey's (except better). I put it in every cup of coffee. There are many different brands. I like the banana rum cream. Nice.

My favorite drink is cocnut rum and fresh pineapple juice. The coconut rum isnt like Malibu. It isnt sweetened. They grow pineapple and its usually easy to buy at the Valuemaster. They have a fresh fruit punch there that goes well with 151 or coconut rum.

Rum cream is like Bailey's Irish Cream, but made with rum instead of irish whiskey. It is great in coffee, on the rocks, or in blended drinks like a dirty banana (rum, rum cream, fresh bananas, simple syrup, milk, ice, etc., blended)

As for rum drinks in Jamaica, I like myself a good:

-Appleton V/X and Jamaican Pepsi (I swear their Pepsi is better!!) is my staple

-Overproof white rum (Wray and Nephew) and Pepsi (I will ONLY drink this during the day, because it KILLS you at night)

-Planter's punch (I know it is orange juice, lime juice, grenadine, Appleton Gold rum, and it may have some more ingredients--you could find a recipe online)

-Coconut rum and pineapple juice (referred to as 'Jamaican Viagra' by a bartender at Merrils II). This is a great, easy drink to mix yourself and drink on the beach.

I'll probably think of some more....

At the Hi Lo grocery they sell fruit juice by the gallon,it's orange-strawberry&bannan. Mix that with the white appleton rum, then sit back and watch the sunset.

I like my rum creme on ice, blended in the blender... depending upon how much "blend" you give it you can end up with anything from a slushee to a smoothie...

I love rum with any fruit juice.

The Dirty Banana's I make also have Kalua or any other coffee liquor or add Strawberries for a Hummingbird - YUMMY!!!

Always have to buy several bottles of rum cream when I am in JA since you can't get Jamaican Rum Cream here :-(

Give me your basic Jamaican rum punch. A bit on the tart side please.

Here are a few recipes for it:

1 cup Bacardi® 151 rum

1/2 cup Myer's® dark rum

1/4 cup Malibu® coconut rum

2 1/2 cups pineapple juice

2 1/2 cups orange juice

1/4 cup lime juice

3 tbsp grenadine syrup

ice cubes

Jamaican Rum Punch

There is a lot of Rum is this punch, and it's got a definite kick. If you want a mild punch, this is not the recipe for you. As posted by a member of Negril.com.

2/3 cup overproof white rum

2/3 cup dark rum (Meyers)

2/3 cup dark rum (Appletons)

2/3 cup coconut rum (like Parrot Bay or Cocomania, not Malibu)

1 (12 ounce) can frozen fruit punch concentrate (Minute Maid)

36 ounces water (= 2 1/2 cans, mixed with concentrate)

4 cups pineapple juice (or to taste)

1/2 cup lime juice (either fresh squeezed or use bottled real lime juice)

1/2 cup cherry syrup (can use Grenadine if you can't find the syrup)

1. Mix everything together, taste and adjust.

2. Garnish with pieces of pineapple and slices of lime.

3. Serve over ice.

4. You can keep Rum Punch forever in your refrigerator and in fact it gets better with age.

Cheers!

Hi, Templem. I LOVE the hummingbirds, pina coladas, and dirty bananas the bartenders make in Jamaica.

When in Jamaica, we always by a few bottles of Rum Cream to put in our coffee. On our next trip, though, we will have a blender in our room, so I was kind of wondering the very same thing. So, if I blend some coconut Rum Cream, pineapple juice, and ice, would that make a good pina colada?
