Travel Insurance?

I am planning a trip to Jamaica...yes, goooood!

Good travel insurance companies...no, baaaaad!!

After checking all the sites and "then" researching consumer complaints about the travel insurance providers, I am shocked at the results as I found no positive comments from anyone who actually needed to file a cliam.

Does anyone know of a travel insurance provider who actually provides good coverage, and pays when your trip needs to be canceled.

what do you mean by "when your trip needs to be cancelled"? medical need? weather need? or just on your whim?

i've used squaremouth.com before as a resource to find and compare insurance plans - you can see the ratings of the insurance providers and in addition, squaremouth.com itself has a no-hassle policy.

but you also have to be realistic about what you are buying and how much you are spending. on our upcoming trip i have basic insurance that primarily covers trip delay and weather interference. if airports close down due to weather for more than 24 hours i can get a full refund of my $2K - minor delays substantially less than that. but, i've only paid $75 for the policy for the two of us and i chose not to get all the health-related extras and the itemized stipends for all the other stuff. if you want to spend more on a policy, then you get more coverage and less "conditions" on that coverage.

i ended up using TravelEx this time around. thankfully, i've never had to file a claim with travel insurance. and i don't usually get it for trips. but as our trip is in mid-sept this year, even this modest policy gives us a bit of peace of mind.

I am mainly concerned with Weather, family emergencies (deaths sickness, etc.).

I could not see us canceling unless one of the above happened.

Thanks for the site.
