sandals negril vs sandals grande st. lucia

has anyone been to both sandals negril & sandals grande st. lucia?

My husband and I are debating over which one to go to.

We love beautiful beaches, white sand, and swimming in calm waters. Also love snorkeling, scenic tours, fun resort. Any comparisons will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My husband and I have been to both. We went to sandals negril in 2002 for our honeymoon and to the grande in Nov. of 2004. They are both wonderful resorts. I liked the beach better at negril and how clear and calm the water was. The beach was ok at the grande but did not compare to negril. As far as the rest of the resort, the grande has so much more to offer. More places to eat, more pools, more bars. The playmakers at the Grande were the best. As far as scenic tours the only off resort tours we did at negril were shopping and going to ricks at sunset. That was because i broke my foot the day before we left. (The staff was wonderful by the way. Always checking up on me and helping anyway they could.)

St. Lucia is a beautiful island. We went on a tropical jeep safari and got to see so much of the island.

If i had to choose which one to go back to I think I would pick St. Lucia and the Grande. If you have anyother questions just let me know.

Thanks for all your advice pthurk!!

It seems like the beach in Negril is a favorite for many!

The beach is very important to us, therefore I think we will enjoy negril more. I would love to hear more reasons about why you prefer St. Lucia.

Thanks

hi crzytraveler2:

we love both resorts, but keep returning to nregril, hope this will help:

beach: we love walking for miles on a beautiful beach & calm waters = only at negril. beach at st lucia is pebbly & short.

snorkeling, scenic tours & fun resort = excellent at both resorts

rooms: we prefer the rooms in negril (white walls, tropical prints everywhere, louvred doors to your patio overlooking turquoise waters. you can lie in bed & hear the water). the rooms in stlucia all have great views, but when we were there they had carpeting on the floors (moldy), darkwood trim (moldy) & heavy dark prints (not tropical enough for us).

restaurants: excellent at both resorts. in st lucia we feel the 2 best restaurants are at the golf resort & halcyon ( pier house).

in negril we prefer the feel of dining under the stars & 3 of the restauraunts there offer just that.

both have ok little gyms. in stlucia you can walk next door to fort rodney & spend the day climbing one of the highest points of land around. the view is spectacular!

hope this wasn't too long, feel free to ask more questions.

pthurk - your posting on the broken foot - I broke my ankle the day before I was leaving for Negril, Jamaica on Christmas Eve 2003. Unlike you, I had to have surgery on Christmas Day (had ten screws and a plate implanted) and we missed our trip. We are trying it again in March this year for our wedding. Glad to hear you got to enjoy the trip even with the injury.

Hi jonp,

thanks for all the great info. We are definitely going to Sandals Negril!

Can you tell me a little more about how the hotel bars are like.... how late they stay open, and where people usually hang out late into the night?

Thanks in advance!

hi crzy...:

on regular nights, there is usually a "show" in the main dining room / bar. it usually closes around 11:00 ?

also there is a really nice piano bar close by that stays open til approx 2:00? it isa a lot of fun, usually with a fair sized crowd. it is right on the beach & is our favorite.

they used to call a room next to the piano bar "the disco", it was usually mostly empty, but played music til quite late. however it is now converted to a small casino. we haven't seen it yet.

other than that there is a short cab ride to numerous famous beach bars down the road in negril. closing time = ???????

good luck,

jon
