New traveler going to CSA

Few Questions:

Can I pack bigger bottles of sunblock, lotion, etc. in my luggage?

Once you pay for luggage fees when departing do you pay again when returning?

These may be silly questions but this is my first time flying so please be patient.

Thanks A Bunch!

Hi lcurry,

Yes you can pack bigger bottles of sunblock, lotion, etc in your checked luggage. In fact I would recommend that you bring a lot of sunscreen.

Depending on your airline, you should not have to pay for your luggage unless you are over weight. Most airlines do not charge for international travel. What airline are you flying?

Not silly questions at all, you are going to love CSA and Jamaica.

I would strongly recommend putting them in TIGHTLY sealed ziplock bags as the unpressurized luggage compartment can make your liquids leak.

Another CSA newbie here - when are you going??

We put our sun lotions in a toiletries bag when packing just incase they leak - I would say take more lotion than you think you will need - we always go through loads of lotions

Thanks so much for all your responses. I will be at CSA June 13-20. Feel free to provide any information that would be helpful. The more info the better.

Thanks!

American Airline Baggage rules:

Other International Travel (including the Caribbean)

One bag carry-on. No charge

Two bags checked. No charge

45 in/114 cm (carry-on)

Size limits:

62 in/157 cm (checked)

40 lbs/18 kgs. (carry-on)

Weight limits:

50lbs/23kg (checked)

The size limitation of your luggage is calculated by adding the total outside dimensions of each bag, that is, length + width + height.

Note: Carry-on roller board bags, duffle bags, large backpacks, or other personal items that don't fit in the overhead bins or under the seat must be checked at the gate and placed in the cargo compartment on American Eagle planes.

As others have suggested, make sure to put any liquid type items (shampoo, sun screen, nail polish, etc....) in a ziplock baggie. That is one mess you don't want to have to deal with!

Have fun!

American Airlines does not charge you for your first checked bag going to Jamaica. That means that you and your spouse can each check a bag at no charge.

I agree with EinWI, I always put my stuff into a ziplock bag just incase there is a leak. In over 15 trips to just the Caribbean I have only had a problem once but that was enough.

Hi EinWi,

I remember when you went to EDR in Riviera Maya a few years back. Do you prefer CSA to EDR? Care to offer any comparisons??

Thanks,

Kim
