Breezes Grand or Riu Tropical Bay

I'm trying to decide which of these two resorts would be the better one to choose.

We are planning our trip for next March, Riu is $90.00 more than Breezes, so it doesn't matter there.

Would like comparison of room quality, food quality, but beach is the most important thing.

Thanks

I have just seen the Rio from the beach, so can't really comment about rooms, etc. We stay at BGN and love it!! One diff is no children at BGN. Most people seem to like beach at BGN over Rio.

No way I would pay more for RIU than Breezes.

RUI has a crowded beach and has always been loaded with kids - and noise - when we walk by. It is a hassle to make dinner reservations as you have to stand in line each morning if you want to have dinner at the ala cartes.

The rooms look more modern at RIU and the ones at BGN (based on stay there in 2010) are just ok, but the beach at BGN is uncrowded, you can have a nice meal without a reservation, water sports are included and it is not loud and crowded like the RIU.

I also think the RIUs are about the ugliest resorts in JA.

Thanks for the info.

When you say water sports are included at Breezes, do you mean motorized water sports or other? And no kids allowed? Yes!

We are 3 mature women trying to have a getaway, so Breezes does sound better for us.

HI Bigmar;

Personally, I would not be booking any Breezes Resort. In fact, if I were to pull out my crystal ball right now, I would guess that Breezes will not exist by the time your vacation arrives. Trelawny was sold, then BRB. Breezes has walked away from multiple properties on multiple islands over the past year as well. This is just speculation at this point but it certainly appears that Superclubs is liquidating one resort at a time. I would not want my vacation dollars tied up by them.

marnie, that is a good point. However, I still would not book RIU, period.

I would do a non AI like Idle Awhile or Coco LaPalm.

I agree Cav, never RIU. I dont know Bigmar's situation or their likes and dislikes but spanish monstrosities are really not good for anyone. Maybe if they gave us more information we could nudge them in the right direction.

KIDS is most definately a four letter word. We are still hoping they make adult only flights available soon!

I would not worry about whether the Grand is a Breezes resort or not - jewel taking over Runaway Bay will be great for those going. The make sure you are taken care of - go enjoy! No worries mon!
