First time visitor to Jamaica

My husband and I and our 15 year old daughter are going to Jamaica later this month, staying in Negril... Would love to have some suggestions on places to eat and a suggestion for Zip lining for our daughter.. Also what type of currency is best accepted their, and if anyone has any "do and don'ts" please share. Thanks

The most accepted currency there is the local currency. I encourage you to change your money.

There is a small ziplining run at Discovery Falls just outside of Sheffield. As a family you might also enjoy a day cruise on Wild Thing - you can do one that includes horseback riding.

If you are into nature and wildlife, go to the Royal Palm Reserve, just outside of Negril proper....lots of birds, and walking trails through the huge Palm trees---there is a small museum as well.....I got Vincent (has a boat and takes people to the reef and such) to take us up the river to the back door of the resort---fun going up the river, but go early before it gets too hot!

Zip lining at YS Falls and crocs at Black River. If you have a great guide, you'll hear much about the history and people of the area.

We've always just used US currency. Take mostly small bills for tipping and purchases. You won't get US change back.

I agree on eating dinner at Ivan's. The place/views are amazing!

The Jamaican people are the warmest we've met anywhere. They are the main reason we keep going back!

Exchange your Money at the cambio. You can use US. Money it is good to have a lot of 1 dollar us bills. IF you like jerk chicken and don't mind the street vendors they have great Jerk Chicken sandwiches for cheap . Go to Ricks Cafe on the west end

I always go with local currency. I find it easier and more fitting-in. But I guess it depends where you are staying and what you are doing. You can get JMD by changing USD cash at a cambio, or even better using your debit card at an ATM machine to get it directly from your home bank account.

another food choice is Ras Rody's, across from Tensing Pen on the Cliffs---very Jamaican, vegetarian, and very tasty---Rody has recently been featured on Samantha Brown's Travel Channel show, and has a new cookbook!
