Sandals upgrade

We are sandals select platinum members and were wondering if anyone knows how the upgrade works at sandals. We have never received an upgrade in any of our trips that we have had. We have had Booked different classes of rooms from bottom to butler. But never have we been given an upgrade. Anyone know how it works.

Kind regards,

Fleur

It doesn't work in any particular way.

It all comes down to availability/occupancy and luck of the draw.

Its been given to return guests and new guests alike. pretty much 50/50. Upgrades are not perk of the Sandals select program so its always recommend you book the room you will be happy with and if you get an upgrade its icing on the cake.

There is a magic crystal ball hidden somewhere, they shake it and decide where you go. :)

There is no rhyme or reason to it, and it is literally luck. Good luck! :)

Upgrades happen more frequently during slow season. If the resort is at or close to capacity it's not going to happen at all.

If it makes you feel better I also am a platinum SSG member and have never gotten an upgrade. We were offered a paid upgrade to butler once and took it.

I think having a Sandal's Specialist for a travel agent can really increase your odds, I believe. Also it would not hurt when you get there to ask for an upgrade:>) Last time we were at Mobay we got a small upgrade which was lovely. Then during the Sandals Return Guest dinner we were chatting with the Operations Manager (ok my husband says I was talking his ear off) about how much we love Sandals and how fun our trips to Jamaica have been, and next thing you know he was offering us an upgrade lol we spent the remainder of the week with an incredible ocean view and steps away from all the action!

Having talked to many people over our trips, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to upgrades. First timers that booked themselves are just as likely to get an upgrade as someone who's been 10 times and uses a TA. Travel agents will try to tell you they can get you a better upgrade, but from my experience, it's not the truth. Talking to a manager yourself, like Susan above said, is probably your best bet. If you go seek them out as soon as you get there, they probably wouldn't be so inclined to help you though. I have specifically been told not to ask for an upgrade upon arrival, and staff do not like it, and you might even be downgraded from what they would have given you. Everyone who goes wants and upgrade, and naturally, every person on resort can't have one. It's the luck of the draw.

At one time returnee guests were almost always offered an upgrade (based on resort occupancy), but now it is the luck of the draw. Best advice is to book the room category you would be happiest with, and if a complimentary upgrade is offered, it is the icing on the cake. I also recommend checking out the upgraded room first before accepting it....we have politely turned down an upgrade simply because it was not the same view as we had originally booked.

And of course, upon arrival you could find out the price to upgrade your room....there might be a good deal offered if the resort is not full.

Yeah I have heard mixed experiences as well. Some people claimed they asked for an upgrade and got one. Others said they asked and were declined one but then other guests who did not ask for one did. I have also heard a few Sandals TA's say you should not ask for one. I for one agree. I think its kinda rude to ask for something better than what you paid for. Unless there was something wrong with my room, I would never request an upgrade. I have also heard that guests in lower categories are upgraded more often than Butler guests.

I imagine the idea behind the upgrades is actually not as much for the guest but for the brand. If a handful of new or return guests go home and rave about their upgrade and felt they received better than what was promised they (#1) are more likely to spread good word of mouth and promote the brand to more potential guests (#2) may be more likely to treat themselves to a better room on their next trip since they enjoyed the room so much. Its really genius on their part to offer them as much as they do and to make sure its being offered to both new and return guests.

With 11 stays at SGR we have been upgraded about 80 percent of the time--- we have never asked for it and have always booked the room we want. We even turned down an upgrade one time because it was on the Riviera side and we prefer the hillside. We always book directly with Sandals and most of the time we book a butler suite.

Thanks guys. We always book the room that appeals to us most and have never had a disappointment. Just wondered . But giving upgrades to first timers make sense.

Enjoy your future trips.
